Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

You may not realize it but there are a lot of moving parts to your golf gear.

Even your driver is an amalgamation of variables that can all have a significant impact on your swing. From your driver head, your shaft and up to the very grip you use, every component plays a crucial part.

Some would argue that the most important part of your driver is the shaft. Your shaft has to fit your swing tempo and swing speed to a tee. Beyond that, it has to complement your strengths and compensate for your weaknesses from the tee. We know, it sounds like a lot to consider, which is why a fitting is always ideal.

But it’s actually not as complicated as it sounds. To prove it, we went out and tested a specific shaft: the Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65. Our goal is to help you decide if this shaft is right for your driver and demystify the questions you may have about it. Let’s get started!

Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 Overview

In case you were wondering, the “AV” in Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 stands for Aluminium Vapor.

The Mitsubishi Chemical Group uses an advanced aluminum vapor coating on this shaft to enhance the overall stability of the shaft.

The Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 is a graphite composite shaft meaning that including graphite as the main component, there are also other materials such as carbon fiber and the above mentioned aluminum vapor. All of the components work together to produce a shaft that flexes pretty much ideally for long drives.

Our testers noted that the Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 loads up well from the top of their swing and unloads nicely on the downswing. This is exactly what you want if you want more distance from your drives.

The Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 in particular is the regular flex version of the Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 series. It is also available in 67 and 68 gram versions.

Why is the Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 So Popular?

We can’t speak for other players but for us in particular, we really liked the feel of this shaft.

It gives you a nice whipping effect without feeling too noodly. You can feel it load but once it comes time for impact, it squares up nicely. The technology that went into this shaft was clearly labored over and tested at length to produce such satisfying results.

How Does the Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 Perform?

By and large, our testers came up with mid launch and mid spin results.

The launch monitor data saw spin rates consistently in the 2800 RPM range and launch angles hovering around 14° – 15°.

For our testers that naturally hit the ball high, the ball was flying much lower than anticipated from the tee. In terms of modern driver play, the Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 fits right in: it produces that low, penetrating ball flight with moderate spin that most players seem to prefer these days.

At least, players with faster swing speeds. But even for our testers with slower swing speeds, we saw that their drives were increasing by up to 6 yards with the Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 shaft.

Now, rollout was certainly sacrificed with this low launching driver; but carry distance was overall up across the board.

The key feature here is the aluminum vapor coating which adds stability without adding weight.

Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 Driver Review

The Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 is a tremendous graphite shaft for drivers – especially if you are trying to counteract the high launch of your driver head and achieve a lower, more penetrating ball flight off the tee.

Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 Fairway Wood Review

The Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 is actually a great choice for your longer fairway woods if you have trouble getting them up in the air. The adjustment will help you launch your woods higher and gain more carry distance (up to the 3-wood we would say).

Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 Irons Review

The spin would be too low for most of your irons. These shafts are really meant more for your woods.

Who Should Buy it?

The Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 is definitely a great shaft for anyone that can benefit from a mid to low launching drive.

If you have an aggressive transition and fast tempo, this is not the shaft for you. However, if your transition is smoother and tempo more deliberate, you will likely love the feel and distance gains from this shaft has to offer.
