Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight
The Grafalloy Prolaunch series of shafts has become one of the most popular aftermarket options for drivers and woods.
In fact, many fitters and players consider the Grafalloy Prolaunch series an upgrade – even over some of the best stock shafts available today.
The Grafalloy Prolaunch Blue is arguably the most popular Prolaunch shaft. So much so that it tends to dwarf the Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum which is a formidable shaft in its own right.
Today, we will be giving the Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum its day in the sun and telling you all about the important specs and performance aspects.
Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum Shaft Overview
Some people in the know have compared the Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum to the Diamana Blueboard shafts because their specs line up almost perfectly.
Now I have tested Blueboard shafts and I can tell you that while the specs may be similar, the feel is not at all the same.
The Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum gives you more flex and feels less tense in the tip, butt and midsection.
The feel of the Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum is certainly active; but not too active.
While there is a clear kick in the midsection the Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum seems to do a good job of resisting ovalling. Face angles stay where they should be and the launch/spin are not out of control.
This is probably due to the “Micro-Mesh tip technology” that stiffens the tip section for more control over the club head.
So even while the rest of the shaft loads up and reacts to your stronger swings very actively, the tip remains stable and consistent.
The shaft itself looks pretty cool too. As you may have been able to guess, it has a shimmering silver finish that almost makes it look like a steel iron shaft.
These are fairly high-torque shafts and you can feel every bit of it when you swing it. That’s not to say that the Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum feels loose; but there is certainly no lack of activity.
Why is the Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum So Popular?
While I would contend that the Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinoum is nowhere near as popular as the Grafalloy Prolaunch Blue,
I can see how the Platinum would be a popular choice among players who struggle to get the ball in the air.
The launch is easy and the flight is for the most part, straight.
How Does the Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum Perform?
For all the liveliness of this shaft, I think Grafalloy did a really good job with the weighting.
This shaft only comes in 63g and 64g versions and I think this is the perfect weight range. I can only imagine how noodly it would feel if, heaven forbid, it came in a 50g version.
Instead, the Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum offered really nice, controlled launch. During my testing, my launch angles lived between 11° and 14°.
To be honest, I initially thought ballooning would be an issue after I felt how active this shaft felt.
But it was not an issue. Spin rates were kept under control as well. With the 2500-2700 RPM spin rates I was getting, I would never call this a low spin shaft.
But the stiffer tip helps to mute the spin. For the most part, I was hitting soft fades that launched out really quickly but seemed to flatten just as quickly.
This made for a very strong trajectory and pushed my carry distance. After three swings, I wound up with an average carry distance of 262.7 yards.
Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum Shaft Specs
Specs | Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum |
Available flexes | Regular, stiff, extra stiff |
Weight | 63g, 64g |
Butt | .600” |

What Flexes Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?
Regular would be a good choice for 75-80 MPH swingers.
Stiff can be useful for players in the 81-90 MPH range. Extra stiff worked well for my 94 MPH swing speed.
What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?
There is almost no discernible difference in feel between the 64g and 63g versions of this shaft.
So in general, I would say that both weight options are suitable for 75-95 MPH swing speed players.
Why is it So Good?
For me, I really liked how easy the Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum was to launch.
And the ball simply didn’t keep climbing. It gets up and out quickly but flattens out nicely for more carry.
