Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

The Aldila Rogue series of shafts offers golfers of all skill levels the opportunity to gain distance.

The line includes the Aldila Rogue Black, Aldila Rogue Silver, the Aldila Rogue IO and the Aldila Rogue Max shafts.

In today’s review, we are going to be starting at the far end of the spectrum of Aldila Rogue shafts: the Aldila Rogue Max shaft. And in particular, we will be taking a look at the Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff shaft. Will the Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff be the right fit for your drive? Let’s find out!

Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff Shaft Overview

Right off the bat, the Aldila Rogue Max shafts are the shafts that you will want to check out if you have a moderate swing speed with a moderate transitional tempo.

This is the shaft that is going to help you out most with distance. Distance is the name of the game here.

The Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff was designed specifically to flex more and provide assistance with smash factor and club head speed. When you swing the Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff shaft, you can’t help but notice the clear yet fluid kick that occurs just above the tip section. To put it in crass terms, this shaft whips.

It doesn’t ever feel like it;s out of control though thanks to the cross carbon fiber weave that Aldila used throughout the length of this shaft. This design is supposed to create a consistent release path so that no matter how strongly it bucks, it whips back into place, so to speak.

The Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff has a pretty cool design with a black/white/silver color scheme. Near the grip, you get a digital design that sort of resembles a motherboard. It’s a cool looking shaft overall. And while we tested the Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff specifically, the 65G weight class can also be had in 65 and 69-gram versions.

Why is the Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff  So Popular?

One word: distance.

We haven’t talked to many other Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff shaft users but we can imagine why they game them. Distance gains are almost immediate with this shaft. And what golfer is going to say no to near-instant distance gains? This is also a popular choice as a lightweight, graphite driver shaft.

How Does the Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff Perform?

In a word: fast. The Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff shaft feels fast, generates fast ball speeds and has a fast action.

The Aldila Rogue Max 65 in stiff flex weighs 66 grams. So overall, this is a pretty light driver shaft. As such, you can imagine how easy it is to increase swing speed by a couple MPH’s with this shaft.

That is what we were experiencing in our test session. Every tester in our party saw increased club head speed and as a result, more distance. The launch is mid/high. Golfers should note that this launch window is nearly impossible to tweak. Even our better testers could not flight the ball of this shaft down.

But that’s not exactly who this shaft was meant for. The torque of this shaft was pretty much what we were expecting: 3.7°. The rating seemed consistent with what we were feeling at the range.

There is usually a caveat with driver shafts and the Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff has a big one: dispersion. Side spin was very high with this shaft which resulted in erratic dispersion unless you nailed face-center.

Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff First Impressions

At first, we didn’t really feel like this was a stiff flex shaft.

It has a very active load/release and a kick point that you can feel even on practice swings. We didn’t test it in regular flex but we can imagine that it would feel like a wet noodle in the hands.

Key Features & Performance

The Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff utilizes a woven graphite material that runs the entire length of the shaft. While this shaft does feel alive and “whippy” there is still some semblance of control thanks to this outer weave that stiffens the entire profile up a bit.

Aldila Rogue Max 65 Stiff Driver Review

Most players will be able to increase their drive distance by 8-15 yards with this shaft.

While side spin is a concern – especially from the box – most players will be able to get the hang of the kick point and temper the spin.
