Diamana BF Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight
If we have learned one thing about Mitsubishi Chemical it’s that this is a company that puts in the research.
MCA has come out with some of the most innovative shafts in recent years.
We’re not going to lie and say that we understand all of the tech and engineering that goes into each and every one of their shafts; but we do know that their shafts tend to feel exceptionally smooth.
Such is the case with the Diamana BF shaft. The Diamana BF utilizes something called boron fiber to help stabilize the club head and deliver a satisfying feel.
But is a smooth feel enough to add the Diamana BF to your golf gear wishlist? We help you figure that out in the following review.
Diamana BF Shaft Overview
The Diamana BF is a graphite shaft that comes in four different weight classes: 50g, 60g, 70g and 80g.
For this review, we tested the Diamana BF 70 as a 77 gram shaft. If you’re a fan of blue you will like the looks of this shaft.
The branding is minimal save for the “Diamana” logo and the small Mitsubishi Chemical lettering.
There is also the near-obligatory tropical flower in white but it’s smaller than what we have seen in other Mitsubishi shafts.
The blue slowly transitions into a metallic silver near the tip section. The Diamana BF utilizes prepreg that has been “impregnated” with boron fiber. This material is used in the tip section to make it stiffer.
When we tested the Diamana BF, we could feel that both the tip and butt section did in fact feel pretty stiff. In fact, all of the action is confined to the midsection – more specifically, just below the grip.
When you load up on the Diamana BF, you can feel a smooth release. Loading up in the first place is very easy and feels almost effortless. The shaft responds very well to the type of shot you are taking.
For example, when we were just taking some dry practice swings, the Diamana BF felt light and stable at the same time.
And when we were taking full swings, we could feel how efficiently it transferred energy to the ball.
Why is the Diamana BF So Popular?
The Diamana BF is the fourth generation of its namesake.
Many golfers before the Diamana BF have been huge fans of Diamana’s BlueBoard shafts because they always have a smooth feel to them.
The Diamana BF continues that tradition while adding new technology to the equation.
How Does the Diamana BF Perform?
As the weather is warming up, most of our testers were at their peak in terms of swing speed.
And they had a heyday with the Diamana BF. They mentioned that the stable tip and butt section allowed them to fully unleash.
Furthermore, we weren’t seeing crazy divergence when we were swinging 110%.
In fact, quite the opposite. At no time during our testing did we see our launch monitor read any divergence exceeding 11.7 yards.
So you have a group of testers swinging at top speed and very tight shot dispersion. We were off to a great start.
Our average carry distance after three swings with the Diamana BF was 264.0 yards. Not bad considering that some of us are older and can’t swing like we used to.
The Diamana BF produces pretty low spin rates. The highest spin rate we got was somewhere in the 2100 RPM range but the Diamana BF typically stays in the 2000 RPM neighborhood.
