Project X Evenflow Riptide 50 Vs Project X Evenflow Riptide 60 Comparison Overview
The Project X Evenflow Riptide shaft is made by True Temper.
Every golfer should know the name True Temper as they produce arguably the most popular iron shafts in the world: the Dynamic Gold shafts.
True Temper is known for their meticulous attention to detail and for using cutting-edge technology in their shafts.
In comparison to the original EvenFlow shafts, the Project X Evenflow Riptide shafts offer more stability. The active feel is maintained; but you get a keener sense of control on your downswing.
In the following comparison overview, we will be taking a look at the Project X Evenflow Riptide in the 50 and 60 gram weight classes.
Project X Evenflow Riptide 50 Overview
The Project X Evenflow Riptide 50 is a 53 gram shaft that comes in 5.5 flex which is the equivalent to “regular plus.”
There is also a 6.0 flex version which is equivalent to an extra stiff flex.
The Project X Evenflow Riptide has a very reactive feel. There is a definite kick point in the middle of the shaft that sends energy from your swing flying down to the club head.
What struck us the most about the Project X Evenflow Riptide 50 was that it was so active but also so stable.
While you can certainly lose track of the club head on really powerful swings, the Project X Evenflow Riptide 50 will snap outback into place and keep it square at impact.
While shot dispersion wasn’t as tight as we would have liked, you can’t argue with club head speeds in the low 100 MPH range. This is a great shaft for 75-85 MPH swingers.
Project X Evenflow Riptide 60 Overview
The Project X Evenflow Riptide 60 is offered in 63g, 64g and 67g versions.
There is no regular flex: you can choose from stiff, extra stiff or tour stiff.
Given the weight and flex options, we were surprised that the Project X Evenflow Riptide 60 managed to have as active a feel as the Project X Evenflow Riptide 50.
Spin rates are in the 2100 RPM range and the divergence is about the same as in the Project X Evenflow Riptide 50.
The Project X Evenflow Riptide 60 produces mid spin rates and a middle launch. It would be a good choice for players with a moderate tempo swinging their drivers in the 85-90 MPH range.
How Does the Project X Evenflow Riptide 60 Perform?
Something that we really liked about the Project X Evenflow Riptide 60 was that even when we hit up on the ball, the flight stayed controlled.
We never got a shot that ballooned out of control. However, on some mis-hits, we did see that the launch angle dropped off quite a bit.
Spin properties were a little above average for most of our testers. However, this translated to improved roll out distance and overall distance. Not by much but enough to leave an impression on us.
But by far, the best thing about this shaft is how much it works for the player. Even on 90% swings, we could feel how much this shaft loaded up and released. Project X did a great job of counter-balancing activity and control because at no point did we feel that the Project X Evenflow Riptide 60 shaft was unstable.
Mis-hits are pronounced; but that’s what you should expect from graphite shafts that are as active as this one.
