Dynamic Gold X7 Review – Specs, Flex, Weight
The Dynamic Gold X7 was being tested and refined way before it actually hit the market.
It seems as though True Temper really wanted to make sure they had the formula down before they released it to the public. Or maybe they never planned it for mass production in the first place.
And after testing it, we could see why. The Dynamic Gold X7 is one of the heaviest, stiffest and widest diameter steel shafts we have ever played. It was actually being used by Jason Day in his mid irons, short irons and wedges for a long time. In fact, he found great success with the Dynamic Gold X7 on Tour before it ever became available to the public.
Maybe after seeing how successful the shaft was in the hands of Day, True Temper got the itch to unleash it on the golf-playing populace. Whatever the situation truly was, today you can get fitted for a True Temper Dynamic Gold X7 steel shaft. But should you? What type of player does this shaft suit the best? We got our hands on Dynamic Gold X7 shafts and tested them to answer that question.
Dynamic Gold X7 Overview
We’ve heard of tour-weighted shafts and tested our fair share of them.
But the Dynamic Gold X7 takes the “tour-weighted” classification to new heights. This is a steel shaft that is among the heaviest and stiffest currently on the market. For those who are familiar, the Dynamic Gold X7 feels a little bit like the Project X shafts; only stiffer.
But, even with the added weight and diameter, the Dynamic Gold X7 still has that hallmark Dynamic Gold performance. The shaft launches low and reduces spin. The idea here is to reduce drag and increase distance by lowering apex height. Like the other entries in the Dynamic Gold series, the Dynamic Gold X7 shaft has a high kick point so it flexes just under the grip to produce that signature low launch.
Why is Dynamic Gold So Popular?
The Dynamic Gold series of shafts in general have been a favorite among pros and amateurs for many years because they afford better players the performance they need: low launching for faster swing speed players and better control in the short irons and wedges.
True Temper has never been afraid of innovation and while it is rumored that the Dynamic Gold X7 was in production and testing for a decade, we finally get to see that innovation on full display.
The Dynamic Gold X7 in particular is unapologetically for skilled players with fast swing speeds. So we can see why it’s popular among a small percentage of players.
How Does the Dynamic Gold X7 Perform?
The Dynamic Gold X7 takes all the performance aspects of the Dynamic Gold X100 and S400 and injects them with steroids.
You get a penetrating ball flight and impressively muted spin in the long iron. In the short irons, you get incredibly tight shot dispersion and acute launch control.
Better players will surely be able to get higher launch when they want it in their short irons; though mid and low handicappers may struggle getting the pop and stop capability they need from this shaft. Again though, the Dynamic Gold X7 are meant for scratch, amateur and pro players.

What Flexes Are Available? What Swing Speed Do They Suit?
Like all the Tour Issue entries in the Dynamic Gold lineup, the Dynamic Gold X7 shafts are available in just one flex option: extra stiff.
It’s not the fact that this is an extra stiff shaft that makes them viable only for fast swing speed players though; it’s the combination of weight and flex. As a result, the Dynamic Gold X7 will only be viable for players with 95+ MPH swing speeds.
What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speed Do They Suit?
The Dynamic Gold X7 comes as a 133 gram steel shaft.
That’s actually not too much of an increase from the X100 and S400 shafts. And unless you are a hypersensitive player, you may not be able to tell the difference. But the fact that this shaft has a wide diameter and is 133 grams makes the weight difference more noticeable when you swing it. Again, the tandem of weight, flex and shaft diameter make it playable only for 95+ MPH swingers.
