Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

When you’re seeking a combination of accuracy and smooth feel, it would be difficult to find a better shaft than the ones that Aldila makes.

Aldila shafts have had tremendous success on tour so it’s no wonder why amateurs and high handicappers alike are clamoring for Aldila shafts.

But before forking over a ton of money on a shaft that you saw on TV last Sunday, you have to be aware that Aldila makes their shafts for players of all skill levels. For the average golfer, they have the Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI. And while the Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI may fit a lot of average golfers, in the following review we will be telling you about the subtle details you need to know about before making a decision.

Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI Shaft Overview

First of all, this shaft looks really cool. It’s got futuristic, motherboard-like graphics near the middle and the Aldila “A” surrounded by atomic rings.

The lettering bleeds into the graphic scheme seamlessly and the whole aesthetic is consistent. Now let’s talk about feel.

The Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI has a softer tip than its cousin the Aldila Rogue Silver. In our testing, we could definitely feel the softer tip at play: improved smash factor and club head speed with mid to high launch. But what we were more impressed with is that even though the tip feels active, the shaft overall doesn’t feel loose or out of control. There is noticeable torque if you venture down to the 60g weight class; but if you stay in the 70g or 80g class, you won’t notice a ton of torque.

Overall, the Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI has a stable feel right up to the tip section. We would say that the Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI rewards a moderate tempo but it can still definitely keep up with faster swings.

Why is the Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI So Popular?

Aldila shafts have gotten a lot of exposure on the PGA Tour.

Aldila shafts are lauded for their smooth feel and unrivaled accuracy. The Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI is no different. It plays well with both fast and moderate swing speeds while giving players the choice to shape the ball or keep it straight.

How Does the Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI Perform?

One thing that really surprised us about the Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI was that even with such a soft tip, our spin rates weren’t through the roof.

Even better; the spin rates were very consistent. Throughout our whole testing session, we didn’t see the spin rate go higher than 2400 RPMs. This also made divergence surprisingly minimal. The shot dispersion was much tighter than you would expect from a shaft that has such a smooth, fluid and, for lack of a better term, non-stout feel.

When we looked at our shot chart after testing, we were amazed to find that the greatest distance between any of our balls was 9 yards. Our shot chart was a tight cluster of landings that stayed mostly on the right side of the pin. Very, very accurate. And with such an active tip, we were expecting good distance and high launch – we got both.

The Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI produced an average of 241.7 yards of carry after three swings each. It produced high launch and steep descent angles which also contributed to the tight-clustered shot chart – balls were stopping dead in the same areas of the green.

Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI Shaft Specs

Specs Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI
Available flexes Regular, stiff, extra stiff
Weight 66g – 86g

What Flexes Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

Regular flex would be good for players in the 75-85 MPH swing speed range.

For players in the 86-95 swing speed range, we suggest the Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI in stiff flex. If you’re swinging your driver faster than 96 MPH, try the extra stiff version.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

The Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI is available in three weight classes: 60g, 70g and 80g.

The 60g version may work for 80-85 MPH swingers. The 70g version may suit 86-90 MPH swingers and the 80g version would likely work for 91-100 MPH swingers.

Why is it So Good?

The Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI is a good shaft because it delivers that highly-coveted combo of high launch and moderate spin.

Yes, the spin could be lower while maintaining the same launch angles to create an utter distance monster; but for most golfers, the Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI as constructed will play plenty long enough.

Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI First Impressions

Just a few practice swings and we could feel how smooth the Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI was.

The action is all in the lower midsection but it is very well-contained – it’s not whippy at all.

Key Features & Performance

The Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI is made from high-modulus graphitic carbon fibers that maintain stability while still allowing for some activity low in the shaft. For us, this resulted in high-launching shots that sayed on-line.

Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI Driver Review

With our test driver, we experienced very tight shot dispersion and were deftly able to control rollouts on greens and around protected greens.

Aldila Rogue Black 95 MSI Fairway Wood Review

With the fairway wood, we had a bit of trouble controlling distance shorter par 4’s. The lower spin rates threw us off a bit; but this could have been chalked up to poor club choice.

Everyone. Ok that’s an exaggeration.
