Ping G430 Vs Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid Comparison Overview

Ping G430 Vs Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid

In the so-called “carbonwood” era, we are seeing a lot of feature overlap between different manufacturers.

So much so that it’s understandable if you feel that it almost makes no difference which hybrid you choose.

After all, hybrids are looking more and more homogenous these days.

However, there are still a lot of things that can differentiate one hybrid from another despite how it seems at first glance.

So today, we will help you compare the differences of two seemingly similar hybrid clubs: the Taylormade Stealth 2 and the Ping G430.

Ping G430 Hybrid Overview

“The Ping G430 features a carbon fiber crown that wraps into the heel and skirt section of the head.”

It also features a C300 maraging steel face which our testers couldn’t get enough of.

The maraging steel face gives off a clean metallic crack at impact and is strong enough to absorb a lot of mis-hits and keep your ball on-line.

Also helping with accuracy is the “Spinsistency” face design which is very similar to the “Twist Face Technology” used for the Taylormade Stealth 2 and many other Taylormade clubs.

This feature is essentially a curvature of the face that makes for better launch and ball speed on mis-hits.

Right off the bat, the Ping G430 felt lighter. Our launch monitor data confirmed this feeling as we were getting faster club head speed readouts with the Ping G430.

The G430 was also producing lower side spin off the tee and the deck.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid Overview

“Like the G430, the Taylormade Stealth 2 also features a curved face architecture and a lightweight carbon crown.”

More mass has been positioned in the sole of the club though so the CG is a bit lower and the head is heavier.

However, thanks to the fabled Speed Pocket, the Taylormade Stealth 2 was actually maintaining ball speeds on low-face strikes a bit better than the Ping G430.

The inverted cone face design was also very forgiving near the heel and toe areas.

Still, the side spin rates kept the overall distance of the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid down.

“It can basically be broken down like this: if you want the more forgiving hybrid, the Taylormade Stealth 2 is likely a better fit for you.

If you want the lighter hybrid that will produce less spin, the Ping G430 is the better choice.”

Ping G430 Hybrid – First Impressions

“At first, we were a bit concerned about the sole design and leading edge of the Ping G430 hybrids.”

And as it turns out, we had a right to be concerned. The leading edge of these hybrids isn’t as smooth as you would hope for a hybrid. Turf interaction was a bit harsh; but they launch high enough for better players to attack the pin from pretty much any lie.

Ping G430 Hybrid Family

“You can use the Ping G430 hybrids to replace almost any iron or fairway wood in your bag.”

They range from #2 to #7 and they all have a D1 swing weight. The Ping G430 family of hybrids can even replace your shorter fairway woods and yield the same distance. All of the hybrids in the Ping G430 line come with the same features such as carbon composite crowns, C300 maraging steel faces and Facewrap technology.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid – First Impressions

“At first, we believed that the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid was a pure GI club.”

But its workability and versatility quickly impressed us. It’s not the longest hybrid on the market; but it makes up for it with accuracy.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid Family

“The Stealth 2 Plus and Stealth 2 HD hybrids are also available for more specific needs.”

The HD version will help correct a slice while the Stealth 2 Plus is a better option for low handicap players seeking lower flight and spin.

Who is the Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid for?

“The Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid is sure to suit the needs of many kinds of players.”

We were a little disappointed with the spin rates and the high launch compared to the Stealth 2 Plus hybrid. But the standard Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid definitely checks more boxes. While it isn’t as long as the “Plus” version, it is playable for more types of golfers.

It is truly a rescue club from the rough and it will allow skilled players to actually attack the pin from tight lies. It feels and sounds nice when you pure the ball and you don’t lose much ball speed when you mis-hit.
