Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Vs Titleist TSR2 Hybrid

Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Vs Titleist TSR2 Hybrid

It’s Callaway Vs Titleist in today’s comparison of hybrids.

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Hybrid Overview

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Hybrid

“The Smoke hybrid features an Ai-designed face, tungsten weight cartridge and adjustable hosel.”

The crown has a clean, compact look but the sole looks a bit busy with the tungsten weight and royal blue lettering.

But the face is plenty forgiving. Like the TSR2, it has an elongated blade so you get solid lateral forgiveness.

And while the forward-oriented tungsten weight helps to mute spin for added distance, it detracts a bit from stopping power.

The Paradym Ai Smoke hybrid costs $280.

Titleist TSR2 Hybrid Overview

“The TSR2 features the SureFit hosel, elongated blade and sole relief pockets.”

It has a decidedly fairway wood look at address. The profile is rounded and looks very clean overall.

The Titleist TSR2 produced higher launch and a bit more spin than the Ai Smoke hybrid.

The turf interaction of the TSR2 was also noticeably smoother. It retails for $300.

“The Titleist TSR2 is simply a more well-rounded hybrid. It offers the contact through the rough you need from a hybrid and ample stopping power even if it does play about 4 yards shorter than the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke hybrid.”

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Hybrid – First Impressions

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Hybrid4

“I liked the forgiving look at address right away.”

But mostly, I loved the way this hybrid felt. After my very first swing I simply said, “whoah.” That’s because the face feels super reactive – another thing Callaway doesn’t really hype which I feel they should.

The face feels very powerful even when you miss the sweet spot and my launch monitor numbers confirmed the feel.

I was averaging a ball speed of 136.1 MPH with the 3H. Of course, some of that reduction in spin has to do with the forward weighting cartridge on the bottom of the sole.

Forward weighting almost  always mutes spin and that is certainly the case with the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke hybrid.

Titleist TSR2 Hybrid First Impressions

“My first thought about the Titleist TSR2 hybrid was that it looked really clean.”

As usual, Titleist kept the design of the crown neat and tidy. All you see is a pleasing spherical shape and a single alignment marker. I also liked the rounded shape that leans towards a fairway wood aesthetic.

The Titleist TSR Hybrid Family

If you’re looking for more of a player’s look and more adjustability, check out the Titleist TSR3. The Titleist TSR3 is the only hybrid in the TSR line to feature an adjustable CG weight.

A single weight can be positioned to achieve a neutral, heel, toe, extreme heel or extreme toe center of gravity. The Titleist TSR3 also features the same adjustable hosel as the Titleist TSR2.

Compared to the TSR1 and TSR2 hybrids, the TSR3 has a more compact head shape. It doesn’t extend as far as the Titleist TSR2 so you get more of a large iron profile than a fairway wood profile.

As a result, the Titleist TSR3 is the most workable hybrid in the TSR family. I would definitely recommend it to mid and low handicappers.

Who is the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Hybrid for?

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Hybrid5

“The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke hybrid would be a great choice for high handicap players who want to achieve a more piercing trajectory and get the ball downrange.”

I’ve seen a lot of high handicappers struggle with hitting down on the ball and popping it high with a ton of spin. That’s a surefire recipe for poor distance.

The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke hybrid will certainly help with that. The AI face design and head shaping compensate for the extra spin you generate when you hit down at the ball.

Even if you don’t have a shallow, sweeping swing, the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke hybrid will make it seem like you do.

Another thing I really liked about this hybrid was its turf interaction. A hybrid should always feel good through the rough because that’s what they’re made for, right?

The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke hybrid has a pronounced camber on the sole so it glides over the turf better than your average, clunky hybrid.

So if you find yourself in the cabbage often, this is a great hybrid to get fitted for.

And of course, the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke hybrid is a great option for anyone who simply wants more distance.

It plays long and generates impressive ball speed. Now if you get most of your distance through loft, this may not be the hybrid for you.

The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke hybrid launches lower than any hybrid I have tested recently.

But if you wanna keep the ball low and pick up distance through muted spin, check the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke hybrid out.

Who is the Titleist TSR2 Hybrid for?

“Despite my preconceptions, testing the Titleist TSR2 hybrid proved that it is indeed a good club for high handicappers.”

I would say that as long as you’re in the 17-25 handicap range, you will get along well with this hybrid. I really liked that it covered up toe-side mis-hits which is probably the most common type of mis-hit for high handicappers.

The Titleist TSR2 hybrid is also easy to launch. I was achieving steep launch angles and correspondingly steep descent angles. As a result, I was able to stop the ball better on or at least near my target.

So if you are looking for a hybrid that will not only provide adequate forgiveness but  make you a better pin-hunter, the Titleist TSR2 would be a solid choice.
