Taylormade Stealth 2 Vs Taylormade Stealth Fairway Wood Comparison Overview

Taylormade Stealth 2 Vs Taylormade Stealth Fairway Wood

Choosing the right fairway wood for your game can mean the difference between having to pull out a few irons and having to use just one.

You need a good combination of distance and comfortability if you’re primarily using your woods off the deck.

It can be hard to find this combination but to help you out, today we will be taking a look at the Taylormade Stealth 2 and the Taylormade Stealth fairway woods.

Which one will be best for your game? Find out in the following comparison overview.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Wood Overview

“The Taylormade Stealth 2 comes in three versions: the standard, Stealth 2 Plus and Stealth 2 HD.”

For this comparison though, we used the standard Stealth 2. On paper, there isn’t a lot of difference between the Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway wood and the original  Stealth fairway woods.

However, Taylormade made one significant tweak to the new line: they included inverted cone technology.

The face of the new Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway wood has been labored over more meticulously to make it thinner in areas of the face where players usually mis-hit.

The effect is more forgiveness.

There is one more important difference between these two fairway woods: the Taylormade Stealth 2 has a slightly smaller head profile than the original Stealth fairway wood.

Taylormade Stealth Fairway Wood Overview

“The original Stealth fairway wood has a slightly larger 190cc head; but the same Maraging steel face as the new Taylormade Stealth 2.”

Other similarities include a carbon fiber crown, Speed Pocket, twist face architecture and the V-Steel sole panel.

At address, you can’t really tell the head size difference. However, shot dispersion was a bit wider in the original Stealth fairway wood.

We’re not sure why; but we can bet we can chalk it up to the lack of the inverted cone technology in the original Stealth.

In any case, the Stealth fairway wood played an average of 4.6 yards shorter than the new Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods – mostly having to do with spin rates and bending shots.

“Apart from the ICT and the head volume, these two fairway woods are almost identical in both features and performance.

Still, the few improvements that were made are significant enough for us to come to the conclusion that the Taylormade Stealth 2 is simply better.

It would be hard to imagine the original Stealth being better for anyone just because the Taylormade Stealth 2 does everything the original did; but better.”

The TaylorMade Stealth is possibly one of the easiest and most forgiving fairway woods we have ever hit.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Woods – First Impressions

“Our first impression of the Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods was that they didn’t really change much from the last Stealth offering.”

And while this assessment was generally astute, we can’t fault Taylormade for it. That’s because what they did change was how forgiving the Stealth fairway woods are. Forgiveness and feel have definitely been improved since the original Stealth Fairway woods and that’s really what high handicap players will be looking for.

“The Standard Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods will be a great option for mid and high handicap players.”

The Taylormade Stealth 2 Plus fairway woods are the only ones that don’t have a C300 face construction. Instead, Taylormade used titanium, which isn;t bad; but it just doesn;t feel as responsive as the C300 steel faces that the standard and HD versions have. The HD version has the biggest head though at 200cc (3 wood).

TaylorMade Stealth Fairway – First Impressions

The name gives it away on the club, at address position this thing looks mean. We all felt extremely comfortable when putting the club behind the ball. The new laser alignment clearly is working.

We tested it from many different lies, and we are safe to say the V Steel technology is incredible, on almost every shot the club just slides through any lie. The V Steel plus TwistFace is a game changer for us. The combination of these two features makes it very hard to miss a fairway.

We definitely saw some extra ball speed and distance compared to previous models from TaylorMade.

We just didn’t enjoy that it wasn’t adjustable.

TaylorMade has an additional model to this range called the Stealth Plus, this features their Titanium model. It is the lower spinning option between the two heads.

Most of the features are the same compared to the Stealth model.

The V Steel on the sole has a 80g tungsten weight, this gives you forgiveness while improving turf interaction and versatility.

The face of the fairway is made from titanium, this allows TaylorMade to make the face extremely thin for extra ball speed and distance, and we love that it is adjustable, it has a +-2 degree loft sleeve, allowing you to get really dialed in.
