Taylormade SIM2 Vs Taylormade M4 Hybrid Comparison Overview

There wasn’t a whole lot of time that passed between the release of the latest Taylormade M4 hybrid and the SIM2 hybrid.

So you would think that not a lot changed in  the SIM2. That’s not exactly the case though.

While the Taylormade SIM2 hybrid does have a couple of the same features as the older Taylormade M4 hybrid, it was in this era of clubs that Taylormade started implementing new features and technologies. Do these new features make the Taylormade SIM2 better than the Taylormade M4 hybrid? Let’s find out.

Taylormade SIM2 Hybrid Overview

“Some of the new technologies that went into the Taylormade SIM2 hybrid include the V-Steel sole panel and a forged face.”

The V-Steel sole panel is intended to lower the CG and improve turf interaction. It certainly achieves a lower CG; but we couldn’t feel any improvement in turf interaction from the Taylormade M4. In fact, the Taylormade M4 had better turf interaction.

That being said, the forged C300 maraging steel face of the SIM2 plays hotter and is incredibly consistent. On top of all that, the forged C300 face justsounds crisper and cleaner than that of the Taylormade M4.

Like the Taylormade M4, the SIM2 hybrid features an inverted cone face design that expands the sweet spot near the high-toe area of the face in order to increase forgiveness.

Taylormade M4 Hybrid Overview

“The Taylormade M4 has a very attractive profile and it truly lives up to the Rescue name.”

That’s because it plays like a dream from any lie. Even if you’re in the tall, scraggly rough, you should be able to make clean, consistent contact. The Taylormade M4 looks iron-like at address and offers a bit more workability than the Taylormade SIM2.

Sure, the face doesn’t feel as hot or responsive as that of the SIM2; but better players might actually like the versatility of the M4. As far as forgiveness goes, the Taylormade M4 offers pretty much everything the SIM2 does. However, the SIM2 is more stable on heelside strikes.

“This was a really tough one to call as it seems that the innovations that Taylormade implemented in the SIM2 don’t make it unanimously better. The Taylormade SIM2 will give most players a distance boost and is as forgiving as the M4. The Taylormade M4 on the other hand is better from the rough and is more workable.”

Taylormade SIM2 Max Hybrid

A very long and forgiving hybrid club that will help correct errant shots – great for beginners.

Taylormade M4 Hybrid

The Taylormade M4 hybrid has a satisfying sound and will help high handicappers advance down the fairway with ease.

Taylormade SIM2 Max Hybrid First Impressions

The first thing you will notice is how naturally the CG pulls your swing down.

Overall this was a very comfortable hybrid club to swing. It comes in hybrids 3-7  so you get a nice range depending on what your game needs.

And of course, you will surely be impressed by the distance of this hybrid club even if you are a high-handicapper. While we would say that it’s not quite suitable for use off the tee, it sure is close.

The SIM2 Hybrid Family

Included in the SIM2 line is the SIM2 Max. If you think the SIM2 was forgiving, wait until you try the SIM2 Max. It has a larger footprint and sweet spot and yields the same impressive distance with the same shot-corrective face curvature.

Another asset of note with the SIM2 Max Hybrid is that it performs better off the tee.

We usually don’t use hybrids off the tee but the Taylormade SIM2 MAX 3H was providing comparable distance off the tee to our drivers.

Taylormade M4 Hybrid First Impressions

We liked the simple design and look of the Taylormade M4 hybrids when we first opened them up.

We were pleased when we found out that playing them was as easy as it looked like it was going to be. All-in-all, the Taylormade M4’s may lack workability and a lot of the fancy features of more expensive hybrids; but they are certainly comfortable to swing and user-friendly.

The Taylormade M Hybrid Family

You aren’t confined to the M4 and M3 if you want to stick with Taylormade. The Taylormade M1 hybrids are some of the most versatile that the company makes.

The M1’s feature a rear, 27 gram sliding weight that you can position to the draw, neutral or fade positions. With an adjustable loft sleeve in tow, the Taylormade M1 is much more versatile than the M4 and M2 hybrids.

Who is the Taylormade M4 Hybrid for?

The Taylormade M4 hybrid would be great for anyone looking for a combination of distance and forgiveness.

This is as classic a game-improvement hybrid as you’re likely to find. Distance and forgiveness are the main focuses here but another thing we really liked about these hybrids is that they are easy for pretty much anyone to pick up and play.

They have a familiar and confidence-inspiring feel and weight to them. Again, they are lacking in terms of workability and precision – we have even played longer hybrids. But will they benefit high handicappers and help them get to the green quicker? Absolutely. You can pick up the Taylormade M4 in 3H-5H.

Feel & Control: 91/100

Accuracy: 90/100

Forgiveness: 93/100

Overall Score: 92/100
