Taylormade Qi10 Driver Review – Is it Good & Forgiving for High Handicappers?

“The Taylormade Qi10 driver is the latest offering from a company that is already well-known for game improvement performance.”

I was very excited to get my hands on the Taylormade Qi10 because it is being hyped as one of the most forgiving drivers the company has ever made – and that’s a lofty claim coming from a company that has made some of the best GI woods in the game.

But is the Taylormade Qi10 driver worth the upgrade? Find out as I discuss the details of the new Taylormade Qi10.

The Taylormade Qi10 Driver Family

“Taylormade is offering three distinct models in the new Qi10 lineup.”

I tested the standard Taylormade Qi10 driver for this review so let’s take a brief look at the other models which I will be covering in detail soon as well:

  • Taylormade Qi10 Max – The Taylormade Qi10 Max has a 460cc head volume and with generous offset, is the most forgiving of the three new Qi10 drivers and incredibly good for a slice with its draw bias weighting.
  • Taylormade Qi10 LS – This is the only Qi10 driver with an 18g sliding track weight for custom shot-shaping. With a smaller footprint than the Qi10 Max and standard drivers, it is aimed at more experienced and accurate ball-strikers.

Is it Good for High Handicappers?

“The standard Taylormade Qi10 comes in 9, 10.5 and 12 degree models.”

It features technologies like an infinity carbon crown that covers 97% of the crown expanse with lightweight, resilient, carbon fiber. You also get the Through Speed Pocket which increases ball speed on low-face strikes.

And the 3rd generation of Carbon Twist Face technology helps to expand the sweet spot for maximum forgiveness, it’s also blue in color for 2024. I think this will be a great driver for high handicappers who are in need of a boost in club head speed and forgiveness.

Is it Forgiving?

“I loved the way this driver looked behind the ball.”

The 460cc head looks very forgiving at address and there is just enough offset to instill a feeling of confidence; but not so much that it looks awkward behind the ball. I suspect that the Taylormade Qi10 Max will be even more forgiving but I had no trouble finding the sweet spot with the standard Taylormade Qi10.

I can see that chunking may still be an issue for some; but all other mis-hits maintained good ball speed, loft and flew further than they should have for me.

Difference Between Taylormade Qi10 and Taylormade Qi10 LS Drivers

“The main difference is an 18g sliding weight.”

The Taylormade Qi10 LS driver has an adjustable weight that allows you to automatically impart draw, fade or neutral bias to your shots. It also has a smaller footprint so it might not be as forgiving as the standard Taylormade Qi10.

Available Shafts

  • Fujikura Venus TR Blue (stiff, regular, amateur flex)
  • Mitsubishi Diamana T+ (regular, stiff, extra stiff flex)

How Does it Look?

The Taylormade Qi10 is one of the cleanest drivers I’ve seen in a long time. Instead of the red carbon of the Stealth series, we now have a blue carbon face that contrasts the topline very well. At address, this driver looks very forgiving and frames the ball up very plainly.

Is the Taylormade Qi10 Driver Worth it?

“The Taylormade Qi10 driver succeeds where past Taylormade GI drivers fell a bit short.”

Taylormade drivers (like the Stealth and SIM series) have always played long and been forgiving; but the dispersion usually left something to be desired. The Taylormade Qi10 finally fixes that.

My off-line divergence never exceeded 13 yards during my testing. So if you are looking for a forgiving and accurate GI driver, the Taylormade Qi10 is certainly worth it.

“The Taylormade Qi10 driver combines accuracy with forgiveness. It looks great behind the ball and in the bag.”

Taylormade Qi10 Driver – First Impressions

“I liked the depth of the face and the look of the crown right away.”

I could tell that this was going to be a very “user-friendly” driver and I was right. In fact, I had to open up my stance quite a bit to get a true mis-hit out of this thing. It’s very easy to find the sweet spot and even when you miss it, you aren’t punished nearly as much as you may deserve.

While the Taylormade Qi10 driver didn’t play quite as long as say, the new Callaway Paradym Smoke Ai Max, the dispersion was tight which is, I believe, more important for beginners and high handicappers. After all, distance will always follow accuracy – the inverse of that statement is not always true.

In any case, I loved the way the Taylormade Qi10 driver helped me produce favorable lies whether I was warmed up or not.

Taylormade Qi10 Driver Selling Points

  • Infinity carbon crown
  • Third generation Carbon Twist Face construction
  • Through Speed Pocket
  • Higher MOI than previous Stealth models
  • Multi-material construction
  • Optimized head shape

Who is the Taylormade Qi10 for?

“The standard Taylormade Qi10 driver would be a good choice for handicappers in the 18-25 range.”

More to the point, if you are having trouble staying out of the rough with your current driver, the Taylormade Qi10 would definitely be worth the upgrade. The updated carbon fiber face construction works wonders towards coaxing favorable lies out of all kinds of mis-hits.

If you tend to hit the ball heavy or are a 25+ handicapper, the Taylormade Qi10 Max version would probably be better for you. But the standard is still plenty forgiving and accurate for most high handicappers.

Even as a brand new driver, the Taylormade Qi10 utilizes some of the most successful forgiveness features from past models like the Through Speed Pocket. And while distance could be enhanced a bit, I have to agree with Taylormade’s claims that the Taylormade Qi10 is the most forgiving driver in the company’s illustrious history.

Distance: 96/100

Accuracy: 98/100

Forgiveness: 98/100

Feel & Control: 96/100

Overall Score: 97/100
