Taylormade P760 Irons Review 2023
“A lot of players were sad to see the Taylormade P760 irons discontinued because quite frankly, these were some of the best irons that the company has produced in recent years.”
“The Taylormade P760 irons offer a unique combination of tour specifications and average golfer playability.”
The good news is that you can still snag a new set of these irons in 2023. You can also go the pre-owned route if you want to save some money or you are just trying to augment your current iron set. And while these are highly-regarded irons, there are still things that you should know about them before opening up your checkbook.
In order to give our readers (and potential Taylormade P760 iron buyers) a better insight into these clubs, we went out and tested them for ourselves. Are the Taylormade P760 irons right for you? Let’s talk about it.
The Taylormade “P” Iron Series
“There is a little something for every kind of golfer in the Taylormade P family of irons. Let’s check a few of them out.”
Taylormade P760 Irons
- 3-AW composition
- Forged construction
The reason these clubs are a fan-favorite has mainly to do with the look and feel of them. They are forged from carbon steel, giving them a buttery feel at impact. The blades are also shaped to a player’s performance profile.
Taylormade P770 Irons
- 3-AW composition
- Forged construction
The P770 irons also feature Taylormade’s Speedfoam material that smooths out the feel at impact.
Taylormade P790 Irons
- 3-AW composition
- Forged construction
These are the most forgiving entries into the P series of irons. They are still forged; but made to be more congenial to the game of higher handicappers.
Key Features
Progressive Shaping
The length and blade size of the Taylormade P760 irons has been optimized throughout the set. The idea is to give you better distance in the long irons and more control in the short irons.
1025 Carbon Steel
The Taylormade P760 irons are forged from 1025 carbon steel. This is what gives them their exceptionally smooth feel and also what allows for acute spin control around the pin.
Speedfoam Injection
Irons 3-7 have Taylormade’s “Speedfoam” injection which helps the face flex a bit more and adds to the exceptional feel of the long irons.
Are They Good for High Handicappers?
“The Taylormade P760 irons were made with better players in mind but we can see them being of some use to high handicappers.”
Mostly because the long irons are actually quite manageable. You still don’t get a whole lot of offset in the long irons; but there is just enough to help higher handicap players turn the club over on their downswing.
The Taylormade P760 irons yield good distance and an average launch. So long as you have a swing speed at or above 80 MPH, you should be able to add a few yards to your irons even if you are a high handicapper.
Available Shafts
As of the time of this writing, there was only one available stock shaft for the Taylormade P760 irons: True Temper Dynamic Gold 120. It comes in extra stiff, stiff and regular flex.
Are the Taylormade P760 Irons Worth it?
“If you are a mid or low handicapper looking for exceptional feel and greenside control, then absolutely.”
The Taylormade P760 long irons have a hollow body construction so that the face can flex to a high degree and yield excellent distance. The short irons are one-piece forged for an exceptionally solid and buttery feel. This is definitely a set that will serve you even as you make your way into single digit handicap territory. You get the best of both worlds: exceptional distance and acute control around the pin.

“The Taylormade P760 irons give you distance where you need it and remarkable short game control.”
Taylormade P760 Irons – First Impressions
“At first, we didn’t think much of the design of these irons.”
They have sort of a clunky blade shape with a step in the back and vertical stripes going up and down the back. But behind the ball, these irons look fantastic. Minimal offset and moderate sole width give these irons that preferred players look.
Taylormade Irons Family
“The great thing about the P series of irons is that there is something for everyone.”
If you don’t like the look of a short blade and narrow sole at address, we suggest checking out the Taylormade P790 irons. They are certainly the most forgiving irons in the “P” series and will help you with your striking accuracy.
A good middle ground between the P790 and Taylormade P760 irons are the P770 irons. They produce a middling launch and moderate offset; but they are still forged irons so you get all the great feel and short game control.
