Callaway Paradym Fairway Wood Review 2023

“If you were a fan of last year’s Stealth fairway woods then you will love the new Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods.”

“Taylormade didn’t tweak too much which for some, could be a bit of a disappointment. But why fix something that isn’t broken?”

The Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods are stuffed to the gills with distance and forgiveness technology. On paper, they seemed really impressive; but it wasn’t until we had them in our hands that we saw what they could really do

And while we found that the Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods were a general improvement over last year’s Stealth woods, we also found that these new versions suit a certain kind of player better than others. Is the Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway wood a good option for you in 2023? Let’s find out.

The Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Wood Family

“We chose the standard Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway wood specifically for testing. However, we also checked out the other entries into the new Stealth 2 family.”

Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Woods

  • 15, 16.5, 18, 21, and 24 degree loft versions
  • Neutral ball flight

The standard Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods are a good middle ground between the new Plus and HD versions. The technology is the same but the standard Taylormade Stealth 2 has the most controlled flight.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Plus Fairway Woods

  • 15 and 18 degree loft options
  • Adjustable loft sleeve

The Taylormade Stealth 2 Plus fairway woods are the only ones to feature adjustable loft sleeves and moveable weights. This makes the Plus series a more versatile choice.

Taylormade Stealth 2 HD Fairway Woods

  • 16, 19 and 22 degree loft versions
  • Draw bias

The Taylormade Stealth 2 HD fairway woods have internal draw bias so they would be good for anyone who is having trouble squaring up at impact. Like the standard Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway wood, the HD version also has a high-quality C300 steel face.

Key Features

C300 Steel Face

C300 steel is incredibly strong but it still gives you nice feedback. In the case of the Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods, we found that the face construction delivers a very satisfying sound and great ball speeds.

Carbon Fiber Crown

In order to achieve a lower CG than the original Stealth fairway woods, Taylormade opted for a carbon fiber crown. The lighter carbon fiber material allows for more weight to be positioned low and back in the head.

Twist Face Technology

Like any good Taylormade wood, the Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods have Twist Face technology which preserves spin rates on low-face shots and overall accuracy on mis-hits.

Callaway has taken a cue from Cobra and placed the 23 gram tungsten weight cartridge low and forward in the Callaway Paradym Fairway Wood head.

The result is a low CG, high launch and reduced spin.

C300 Face

The Callaway Paradym Fairway Woods also feature C300 maraging steel faces which are milled to be very thin but are naturally very strong.

It also gives the Callaway Paradym Fairway Woods a premium feel at impact.

Batwing Jailbreak Technology

This is a redesigned version of the Jailbreak bars that were commonplace on previous Callaway woods.

The frame has been expanded out to the heel and toe so that more of the head is stabilized.

Is it Good for High Handicappers?

“The Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods are excellent for high handicappers.”

They’re so good in fact that many of our high handicap testers found them viable options off the tee. From the deck, our testers also found that the tandem of more low/rear weight and the V-steel sole panel creates a very low and workable CG.

The result was high launch and long carry distances. It should also be noted that the Taylormade Stealth 2 #3 wood has a 185cc head. It looks pretty good behind the ball – especially if you’re a high handicapper.

Available Shafts

The stock shaft for the new Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods is the Fujikura Ventus TR Red FW. You can get it in extra stiff, stiff, regular and amateur flex.

Is the Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Wood Worth it?

“The Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods are worth it if you want better accuracy and forgiveness from your woods.”

So in essence, they are worth it if you’re a high handicap player. Our more experienced testers found the Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods difficult to work and the launch a bit too high for their liking. Spin rates were also pretty high overall.

However, premium appointments like C300 steel faces and carbon fiber crowns make these fairway woods very tempting options for players in the mid to high handicap range.

“The Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods have a very nice feel and launch high. A solid option for high handicappers.”

Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Woods – First Impressions

“Our first impression of the Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods was that they didn’t really change much from the last Stealth offering.”

And while this assessment was generally astute, we can’t fault Taylormade for it. That’s because what they did change was how forgiving the Stealth fairway woods are. Forgiveness and feel have definitely been improved since the original Stealth Fairway woods and that’s really what high handicap players will be looking for.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Wood Family

“The Standard Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods will be a great option for mid and high handicap players.”

The Taylormade Stealth 2 Plus fairway woods are the only ones that don’t have a C300 face construction. Instead, Taylormade used titanium, which isn;t bad; but it just doesn;t feel as responsive as the C300 steel faces that the standard and HD versions have. The HD version has the biggest head though at 200cc (3 wood).

Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Wood Selling Points

  • Very forgiving

Who Are the Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Woods for?

“These are definitely great woods for your average mid to high handicapper.”

The inverted cone technology will help you keep your ball speed up even if you miss the sweet spot. The slight curvature of the faces will also help you launch the ball high on mis-hits. There is even a laser-etched alignment marker on the top of the face to help you square up on your downswing.

Everything about the new Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods was designed to help high handicappers get down the fairway in a hurry.
