True Temper AMT Black Vs True Temper AMT White Shaft Comparison Overview
For the uninitiated, the concept that drives the AMt series of shafts by True Temper is that the long irons become more manageable while the short irons afford the player more control.
The Ascending Mass Technology means that the shafts get progressively heavier as you work down to the short irons.
So at the end of the day, the choice comes down to feel and weight. The AMT Black is the middleweight entry into the AMt line while the AMT Black is the heavy-weight contender.
Which one would be best for you? Let’s talk about it.
AMT Black Shaft Overview
“The AMT Black has a 94g-115g weight configuration in regular flex and a 95g-116g configuration in stiff flex.”
One thing we noticed about the AMT Black in our testing is that it seems to do almost all the work.
Most of us were able to take our natural swing but still saw increases in both club head and ball speed. The AMT Black has an active feel with a mid launch that can be worked higher.
You do lose some feedback with this shaft however. The active tip section muddles the feedback at impact.
But the AMT Black rewards a deliberate/fast tempo. It can keep up with your slightly aggressive transition and feels very smooth with a deliberate transition.
AMT White Shaft Overview
“The AMT White comes in regular (102g-127g), stiff (106g-130g) and extra stiff flex (106g-130g).
The weight difference is significant and can surely be felt. The AMT White offers a lower launch and a much more stable feel at impact.
There is some action in the midsection; but you need to have a 90+ MPH swing to unlock it.
Still the transition is smooth and the impact feels very clean. The control is phenomenal in the short irons; if you have a strong enough swing to compensate for the weight.
Our testers were able to work the ball to an acute degree with the scoring irons and had exceptional control over spin and distance.
“The short-game performance of the AMT White shafts left our jaws on the floor. They may even be better than Dynamic Gold shafts.
So if you have a powerful swing and desire max control around the pin, the AMT White is for you.
We would recommend the AMT Black for players with deliberate tempos who can gain yardage through higher launch.”

True Temper AMT Black Wedges Review
From our launch monitor readouts, we could see that the spin rates climb as you work down the set. By the time you have to pull out a wedge, you’ll be able to work the ball comfortably and manipulate spin as needed.

The True Temper AMT Black shafts would be a great fit for players who want to upgrade their noodly irons shafts.
They have a semi-stout feel but are light enough for average players to use effectively. They will help you get more distance from your long irons and make you more accurate around the pin.
