Project X 5.5 Vs Dynamic Gold S300 Shaft Comparison Overview
It’s stiff versus regular flex in today’s comparison of two steel iron shaft titans: the Project X 5.5 and the Dynamic Gold S300.
The S300 is one of the most popular shafts in the world. The Project X line of shafts may not have the prestige of Dynamic Gold yet, but this is still a very high-quality True Temper shaft.
And in the end, there may not be very much that separates them. In the following comparison, we will be telling you about the differences and similarities between these two shafts.
Project X 5.5 Shaft Overview
“The Project X 5.5 is a regular flex shaft at 115g.”
This is a significant weight difference from the S300 which is a proper 130g shaft. Amazingly though, the Project X 5.5 punches above its weight class in terms of control and accuracy. It feels stouter than your average 115g shaft which may sound like a bad thing at first.
But that extra stoutness throughout the length of the shaft only increases club head and spin control. In terms of spin rates and workability, there is very little difference between the Project X 5.5 and the Dynamic Gold S300. The main difference is that the Project X 5.5 works much better with a moderate tempo than the DG S300 does.
Dynamic Gold S300 Shaft Overview
“The Dynamic Gold S300 is a stiff flex shaft at 130g.”
You can feel the difference in weight right away. The DG S300 offers a keen sense of control as soon as you pick it up. It has a very mild kick through the transition but nothing that makes it whippy. Instead, the DG S300 works with your 90+ MPH swing.
Spin rates and apex height were virtually identical between the Project X 5.5 and the DG S300. However, we did notice that dispersion was a bit tighter with the DG S300. The DG S300 also had better consistency. There are very few variables at impact so what you get out of this shaft is exactly what you put into your swing.
“The Project X 5.5 is a great choice if you want the performance of a 130g shaft without feeling like you’ve got a heavy shaft plugged into your irons. The Dynamic Gold S300 is for players seeking tighter shot dispersion and more consistency.”
Project X 5.5 First Impressions
At first, we thought the Project X 5.5 felt a little stout. However, when we paired them with our irons, they let up a bit as we worked down the set.
Key Features & Performance
The most important feature is easily the tapered tip. The tapered area runs longer for enhanced energy transfer from your swing to the ball.
Project X 5.5 Wedges Review
A great choice for wedges because the Project X 5.5 will afford you more accuracy where you need it the most: around the green.
Project X 5.5 Irons Review
We would recommend fitting all of your irons with the Project X 5.5 shaft. The progressive kick point will appeal to better players who will feel the load shift throughout the set.
Project X 5.5 Driver Review
If you are a faster swinger, you will want a stiffer flex than the Project X 5.5 offers.
Dynamic Gold S300 First Impressions
The first thing that an experienced golfer will notice about this shaft is the minimal life.
It doesn’t vary much in terms of kick point whether you give it a full swing or use it on a knockdown shot.
Key Features & Performance
The variable wall design is the most important feature. It’s what gives the Dynamic Gold S300 a high bend point while still imparting consistency across almost all club heads. The performance of this shaft is marked by strong ball flight and low spin.
Dynamic Gold S300 Wedges Review
The Dynamic Gold S300 works amazingly with wedges. So long as you use the right flex for your swing speed, you will get an amazing amount of control and accuracy out of this shaft.
Dynamic Gold S300 Irons Review
Again, amazing control and accuracy. Our only gripe with using the Dynamic Gold S300 with smaller irons is that spin is naturally muted. Of course, you can combat that by pairing the Dynamic Gold S300 with irons that have robust groove design; but it’s still something to take note of.
Dynamic Gold S300 Driver Review
You’re only going to want to use the Dynamic Gold S300 with your driver if you are consistently getting club head speeds of 100+ MPH.
But if you are, you can expect neutral balance and a piercing shot trajectory.
