Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 Irons Review 2023 – Are They A Good Choice for High Handicappers
“When it comes to super game improvement irons, Tour Edge is a good brand to shop.”
Irons are difficult for most players. The worst thing is that struggling with irons is what most players who give up on golf cite as the reason they gave up.
But we would suspect that such former players never played the Tour Edge E522 irons.
Right off the bat, you should know that the Tour Edge E522’s are hybrid irons.
They easily fall into the category of super game improvement irons so if that’s what you’re looking for, be sure to read on as we review the Tour Edge E522’s.
Tour Edge E522 Hot Launch Irons Overview
“The Tour Edge E522 irons are big, beefy and inspire a ton of confidence at address.”
These are hollow body irons which means a couple of things. A hollow body design allows for a free-floating or unsupported face.
This means that the face will react and “flex” more at impact. Another thing that a hollow body design does is allows for more weight to be positioned low in the head.
This allows for, as the name suggests, higher launch. The Tour Edge Hot Launch E522’s launch high in name and in practice.
So if you are the type of player who struggles with getting air under the ball, these irons will help a lot.
The Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 irons also have perimeter weighting so that your mis-hits near the heel and toe aren’t so erratic.
To say that the soles of these irons are wide would be an understatement. They are incredibly wide, yet they have moderate top lines.
At address, the Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 irons look forgiving and will give beginners the confidence they need to take their best swing.
The sound doesn’t change much from a pured ball to a mis-hit; but you can feel mis-hits in your hands. There is plenty of feedback – almost too much.
That was one of our only gripes about these shafts: extreme mis-hits were a little on the harsh side.
“The Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 irons are made for beginners and high handicappers. While there is no workability to speak of, they are consistent.”
Are the Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 Irons Forgiving?
“Absolutely. Even with a slightly shallow face, the massive sole and low CG make it easy for players to get the ball airborne.”
For most high handicappers, the Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 irons will also yield distance increases.
If you have a deliberate tempo and a swing speed under about 80 MPH, these irons will likely increase your long game distance.
Most of our testers said that the 8-iron in the Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 set played as long as their regular 7-irons.
One thing we were worried about due to the size and the fact that these are hollow body irons was that they would be inconsistent. Amazingly, that wasn’t the case.
You can expect the same flight window and spin rates from them, swing after swing. On mis-hits, these irons handle themselves well. The spin rates certainly pick up; but the ball still flies pretty straight.
The Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 irons also have considerable offset so if forgiveness to you means killing a slice, these babies will work like a charm.
Would the Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 Irons Be Good for High Handicappers?
“Beginners and 22+ handicappers are who these irons were made for.”
If you are looking to shoot the ball straighter, higher and longer you should definitely go in for a fitting with the Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 irons.
They flatten the dreaded iron learning curve for beginners and honestly, make the game more fun. To be honest, they are kind of a cheat code because they yield almost immediate distance and height.
But they are tempered with consistency so that high handicappers can quickly learn which iron to pull out of the bag on every kind of lie.

Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 First Impressions
“We were immediately impressed with the launch of these irons.”
Although we shouldn’t have been since “launch” is in the name of these irons. Still, it is very easy to get the ball up in the air.
Of course, this will be a problem carry distance-wise for powerful swingers. But for our slower tempo testers, the Tour Edge Hot Launch E522’s worked very well.
Most of our testers also were launching the ball further. With the 7-iron we were averaging 148.5 yards.
Not spectacular but keep in mind that most of us are moderate to slow swingers.
When you pure the ball, you get a nice high-pitched crack and that sound doesn’t change much on mis-hits – it just gets a little lower pitched.
The feel isn’t the smoothest and you get a slight shock on extreme mis-hits; but most players will find the Tour Edge Hot Launch E522’s acceptable in terms of feel.
