Taylormade Stealth 2 Vs Callaway Paradym Fairway Wood Comparison Overview

Taylormade Stealth 2 Vs Callaway Paradym Fairway Wood

It’s a new year and Taylormade and Callaway have both launched exciting new gold club lines.

The Callaway Paradym fairway woods come in the standard, Triple Diamond and the Paradym X models.

The Taylormade Stealth 2 comes in standard, HD and Plus versions. For this comparison overview, we tested the standard model from both new lines.

Which new release will be the better addition to your bag? Let’s discuss it.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Wood Overview

“The Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway wood makes good use of carbon fiber.”

Carbon fiber is used for the crown so that a larger weight can be placed internally and in the sole of the club head.

When we tested the Stealth 2 fairway wood, we could feel the CG sort of pull down our swings so that getting under the ball was a breeze.

Admittedly, a lot of that pull may be thanks to a V-Steel sole panel that we have seen in previous Taylormade Woods and hybrids.

The real star of the show here though is the C300 maraging steel face.

This is an  incredibly thin and incredibly strong grade of steel and it helps launch the ball like a cannon.

It also imparts an incredibly crisp crack at impact. Perhaps most importantly though the Stealth 2 is incredibly forgiving.

In addition to twist face and the Speed Pocket, the Stealth 2 features an inverted cone design that has been made more effective thanks to the use of maraging steel on the face.

“The Callaway Paradym fairway wood also uses C300 maraging steel for the face.”

The effect is mostly the same: a face that plays incredibly hot. However, the forgiveness factor isn’t there in the Callaway Paradym.

The head is nice and stiff which is good for players who tend to mis-hit because it will keep more shots on-line; but low and high-toe shots are still pretty erratic.

However, when you nail the sweet spot, the Callaway Paradym ball speeds are incredible and spin rates are almost totally neutralized. Obviously, this drove carry distance for our  testers.

“On accurate strikes, the Callaway Paradym certainly plays longer. Like the Taylormade Stealth 2, it also feels really satisfying.

But if you’re looking for the more forgiving fairway woods, we would recommend the Stealth 2’s (available in 15, 16.5, 18, 21 and 24 degrees).

Taylormade Stealth 2 Fairway Woods – First Impressions

“Our first impression of the Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods was that they didn’t really change much from the last Stealth offering.”

And while this assessment was generally astute, we can’t fault Taylormade for it. That’s because what they did change was how forgiving the Stealth fairway woods are. Forgiveness and feel have definitely been improved since the original Stealth Fairway woods and that’s really what high handicap players will be looking for.

“The Standard Taylormade Stealth 2 fairway woods will be a great option for mid and high handicap players.”

The Taylormade Stealth 2 Plus fairway woods are the only ones that don’t have a C300 face construction. Instead, Taylormade used titanium, which isn;t bad; but it just doesn;t feel as responsive as the C300 steel faces that the standard and HD versions have. The HD version has the biggest head though at 200cc (3 wood).

Callaway Paradym Fairway Woods – First Impressions

“With just one glance, you can tell that this was a fairway wood built to modern specifications.”

What we mean is that they bear more of a resemblance to modern hybrid clubs than any other Callaway wood we have seen before.

They were certainly built with mid and high handicappers in mind – although the Triple Diamond version definitely has something to offer lower handicap players.

Upon swinging the Callaway Paradym Fairway Woods, we were impressed with the lowered spin and moderate increase in carry distance for most of our testers.

“The standard Callaway Paradym Fairway Woods are great for mid and high handicappers.”

The Paradym X fairway woods have a slight draw bias so they would be the best choice for players struggling to fix a slice.

The Triple Diamond Paradym fairway woods have the most classic-looking profile and the deepest faces.

This is the best choice if you are able to work the ball and want to attack long approaches more aggressively.

Who are the Callaway Paradym Fairway Woods for?

Callaway Paradym Fairway Wood3

“Luckily, there is a Callaway Paradym Fairway Wood for every type of player – except maybe scratch players.”

The Triple Diamond Callaway Paradym Fairway Woods are great for low handicappers and the distance they produce is market-leading, they are considerably longer than the stealth 2 fairway wood.

Other than that, the Callaway Paradym Fairway Woods and the Paradym X fairway woods are great for mid to high handicappers who still get most of their distance from higher launch angles.

The Callaway Paradym Fairway Woods and the Paradym X fairway woods are also very forgiving on toe and heel misses.

The C300 maraging steel faces give plenty of feedback too – you know exactly when you mis-hit with any of these woods.
