Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid Review 2023

“It feels like the golf world is still coming to terms with the innovations of the last Stealth release. In 2023, we have the Stealth 2 series of clubs from Taylormade.”

The Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid kind of carries the baton on from the last Stealth hybrid release. On paper, it is said to do all the things that the original Stealth hybrid did – only better.

We wanted to see for ourselves if the new Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid really lives up to the hype. So we went out and tested it. Is the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid a smart buy for you in 2023? Let’s find out.

The Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid Family

“Taylormade has given you a few options if you are dead set on picking up a new Stealth 2 Hybrid.”

The Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid

  • #3, #4, #5, #6 and #7 options available
  • Neutral flight bias

The standard Taylormade Stealth 2 ticks almost all of the performance boxes: it’s good from the tee, it’s good from the deck, it plays smooth in the rough and it will allow you to attack long par 5’s.

The Taylormade Stealth 2 Plus Hybrid

  • #2, #3 and #4 options available
  • Neutral flight bias

Quite simply, the Taylormade Stealth 2 Plus hybrid is built for distance. It’s a viable option from the tee while still offering the same smooth turf interaction you get from the standard Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid.

The Taylormade Stealth 2 HD Hybrid

  • #3, #4, #5 and #6 options available
  • Slight draw flight bias

The Taylormade Stealth 2 HD hybrid will be a big help if you tend to slice the ball. It has internal draw-biased weighting along with the same V–steel sole panel that the other Stealth 2 hybrids have.

Key Features

Inverted Cone Technology

The Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid has the inverted cone that basically expands the sweet spot out to more sectors of the face. This makes the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid incredibly forgiving on toe or heel-side misses.

Speed Pocket

Adding to the overall forgiveness of these hybrids is the classic Speed Pocket. For the uninitiated, the Speed Pocket is a channel cut low into the face in order to improve flex on low-face shots.

Mass Pad

In addition to the lower CG of the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid (compared to the original Stealth hybrid), there is also a weighted pad that sits low and far back in the club head.

Is it Good for High Handicappers?

“In a word, yes. The Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid is a great choice for a wide variety of players actually.”

Yes, our high handicap testers loved the forgiveness and smooth turf interaction from the rough that the Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid offers; but to our surprise, our low handicap testers also loved the shot shaping ability.

They were able to work the ball up and down with the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid surprisingly well. Our better testers were also able to get lower launch and spin rates with the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid than our higher handicap testers which clearly means that the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid is more versatile than we gave it credit for.

Available Shafts

The only stock shafts that Taylormade are making available for the Stealth 2 Hybrid clubs are Fujikura Ventus TR Red IH’s. You can get this shaft in amateur, regular and stiff flex.

Is the Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid Worth it?

“If you want a hybrid that can play in pretty much any scenario, then yes, the Taylormade Stealth 2 is definitely worth it.”

One of the things we really liked about the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid was that it cuts through tall, hearty turf really well. So even if your local course utilizes burly native grass, the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid will still get the job done.

This makes it a good choice for high and low handicappers. For high handicappers, it means more help when you miss the fairway. For low handicappers, it means you can set yourself up strategically even if you’re in the rough or have a tight lie.

Keep in mind that the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid is almost $300 so it will cost you. But if you can afford it, this will be the hybrid you are likely to play for many seasons to come.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid

In 20 Words Or Less

“The Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid is a winning tandem of versatility and workability. Great for all kinds of players.”

Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid – First Impressions

“At first, we believed that the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid was a pure GI club.”

But its workability and versatility quickly impressed us. It’s not the longest hybrid on the market; but it makes up for it with accuracy.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid Family

“The Stealth 2 Plus and Stealth 2 HD hybrids are also available for more specific needs.”

The HD version will help correct a slice while the Stealth 2 Plus is a better option for low handicap players seeking lower flight and spin.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid Selling Points

  • Inverted cone technology
  • V-Steel sole panel
  • Great from the rough
  • Viable from the tee
  • Very forgiving

Who is the Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid for?

“The Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid is sure to suit the needs of many kinds of players.”

We were a little disappointed with the spin rates and the high launch compared to the Stealth 2 Plus hybrid. But the standard Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid definitely checks more boxes. While it isn’t as long as the “Plus” version, it is playable for more types of golfers.

It is truly a rescue club from the rough and it will allow skilled players to actually attack the pin from tight lies. It feels and sounds nice when you pure the ball and you don’t lose much ball speed when you mis-hit.
