Lazrus Golf Driver Review – How Good Are They Vs Alternatives? – Are They Good for High Handicappers & Forgiving?
“The Lazrus Golf Driver is indeed a budget driver at just $157.”
And you might think that you should stay away from budget drivers because they are not built well or do not offer the kind of performance you need.
And for the most part, that’s true. I have personally tested plenty of bargain-basement golf clubs and they are usually cheaply made or simply don’t offer easy distance or accuracy. But I have also tested multiple Lazrus golf clubs in the past and most of them have exceeded my expectations.
One of the reasons I believe that Lazrus Golf succeeds in making quality clubs for a low price is that they don’t save money by skimping on manufacturing. Instead, they save money by selling directly to consumers. But will the Lazrus Golf Driver (one of their latest releases) also offer a pleasant surprise? Let’s find out!
Lazrus Golf Driver Vs Taylormade Stealth 2 Driver
“The Stealth 2 features a carbon face and carbon fiber appointments on the crown.”
There is also a 25g steel weight in the back of the head to promote forgiveness. The Lazrus Golf Driver also has a rear weight and in all honesty, both of these drivers are great for players who use the entire face. They are both very forgiving.
The main difference is that the Lazrus Golf Driver is a lot louder at impact than the Stealth 2. Spin rates were also a little higher for the Lazrus Golf Driver.
Lazrus Golf Driver Vs Ping G430 Max Driver
“The Ping G425 Max driver has a moveable weight so it’s easier to control shot shape.”
Unfortunately, the Lazrus Golf Driver has no such moveable weight. You can still shape your shot fairly well with the Lazrus Golf Driver though. Like the Lazrus Golf Driver, the Ping G425 Max has a titanium face. Unlike the Lazrus Golf Driver, the titanium face is forged.
This gives it a cleaner, more muted sound at impact. It also makes feedback a bit clearer. The G425 Max also has an adjustable loft sleeve while the Lazrus Golf Driver has a fixed hosel.
Is the Lazrus Golf Driver A Clone?
“The Lazrus Golf Driver does not appear to be a clone of any other driver.”
The Lazrus Golf Driver has a very traditional game improvement design: a 460cc head, deep face profile and rear weighting. And while these features may be common, the Lazrus Golf Driver is not a direct clone of another driver.
Key Features
Rear Weighting
A fixed rear weight sends more power and maintains stability pretty much no matter where you make contact on the face. The only downside to this feature is that it also produces high spin numbers.
All-Titanium Design
I really liked the fact that both the face and the head are made of titanium. The all-titanium design gives the Lazrus Golf Driver a very consistent and solid feel.
460cc Head Volume
The large, oversized head looks very assuring for high handicappers at address. While workability is minimal, the head size will help you find face-center more often and put some more power into your swing.
Is it Good for High Handicappers?
“The Lazrus Golf Driver provides really good distance that any high handicapper will appreciate.”
Our high handicap testers were easily getting 250+ yards out of this driver while I was coaxing 271.7 yards on average out of it. The distance was very impressive which is great for high handicappers. Another important performance aspect for high handicappers is accuracy. This was a bit of an issue because of the high spin rates. We were hitting wide fades that ended up too far to the right. It was only on controlled, measured swings that we were consistently landing on the fairway.
Available Shafts
“The Lazrus Golf Driver comes stock with a graphite shaft.”
It is available in senior (60g), regular (62g) and stiff flex (68g). You can also get the Lazrus Golf Driver in right or left-hand orientations.
Is the Lazrus Golf Driver Worth it?
“While not as high-performing as some other Lazrus clubs, the Lazrus Golf Driver is still worth it.”
The Lazrus Golf Driver is durable. It will last many seasons. It plays long – great for 90 and 100+ golfers. It’s affordable. It won’t break the bank. For high handicappers, this all amounts to a driver that is absolutely worth the money.
