Garmin Venu 2 Review 2023 – Is It Worth Buying?

“I have reviewed a lot of Garmin golf products in my day and so I can say from experience that they have come a long way.”

From clunky, awkward handheld devices, to sophisticated and stylish watches, Garmin has really upped their game. A perfect example of this continued improvement and innovation is the Garmin Venu 2 watch.

The first thing I have to mention about this watch is that it is a fitness watch first and a golf watch second. But I know a lot of golfers who can’t justify buying a watch for golf and keeping another watch for fitness tracking. For the most part, people want both.

That’s why I have chosen to review the Garmin Venu 2 even though it functions primarily as a fitness watch. And while I will be briefly covering the fitness features, I will be focusing more on the golf features. Let’s have a quick rundown of the most important features:

  • Stainless steel bezel
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 3
  • 49g
  • OLED Display
  • 3” diameter display
  • Touchscreen
  • Health and wellness monitoring
  • Sleep monitoring
  • Stress monitoring
  • Activity tracking
  • Yardage to front/middle/back of the green
  • Automatic shot distance measuring
  • Yardage to layups and doglegs
  • Manual pin positioning
  • Club tracking
  • Round timer
  • Preloaded golf course maps
  • Digital scorecard
  • Round timer
  • Target pinpointing
  • Stat tracking

Is the Garmin Venu 2 Waterproof?

Yes. The Garmin Venu 2 is waterproof up to 5 atmospheres. 5 atmospheres equates to about 164 feet. So unless you are a salvage diver, 5 atmospheres should be way more than enough for you.

Is the Garmin Venu 2 Worth Buying?

“A couple of things that I really liked about the Garmin Venu 2 were the color options and the battery life.”

You can choose from a blue granite or a black color, both of which look really nice. In GPS mode (which is required for most golf features), the Garmin Venu 2 battery lasted me over a week.

Besides all that, the Garmin Venu 2 has all the essential golf features including connectivity options for the Garmin Golf App which unlocks a slew of other features. And at about $400, it’s a lot cheaper than some of the other smart/fitness watches currently on the market. So I would say the Garmin Venu 2 is very much worth buying – especially if you want a comprehensive fitness watch.

“The Garmin Venu 2 has all your essential golf features, looks great and is an excellent fitness watch.”

Garmin Venu 2 Watch – First Impressions

“The first thing I liked about the Garmin Venu 2 was that it wasn’t as large as past Garmin GPS watches.”

Don’t get me wrong, I love to be noticed for a nice timepiece; but there is a difference between eye-catching and gaudy. With a 1.3” diameter display, the Garmin Venu 2 isn’t ostentatious but is large enough for me to read clearly. It doesn’t sit too heavy or big on my wrist either which is extremely important for me when I’m on the links. It doesn’t impede or affect my swing but I can still read it in direct sunlight.

Also, I just really liked the way this watch looks. The granite blue is a modern color that earned me a lot of compliments. And the plain black version is classic and plays well with any outfit.

Key Features

“For me, the most important features were the hazard yardage readouts and the greenview which shows you your distance from the front, back and middle of the green.”

You can also move the pin to the day’s pin position with the touchscreen which is really cool. But the yardage readings to doglegs, layups and hazards was extremely helpful and always has been. This allowed me to choose my club more carefully and essentially, be my own caddy.

These are the features that will actually help you play a better round of golf. Another very useful golf feature was the target distancing. With this feature you can see how far you are from any given target on the course.

The Garmin Venu 2 also has a stat tracking feature which keeps track of your strokes, putts, GIRs and how many of your shots made it onto the fairway.

“Lastly, the Garmin Venu 2 offers automatic club tracking, just be aware that you need to buy additional sensors to put on the butts of your club for this feature to work.”

Who is the Garmin Venu 2 Watch for?

“The Garmin Venu 2 is definitely for the golf enthusiast who also wants a really in-depth fitness watch.”

I was really impressed by all the features this watch has packed into it. I can’t imagine that anyone would need another golf watch or fitness watch after buying the Garmin Venu 2.

All the features can be a bit overwhelming so if you do buy this watch, take a good amount of time to familiarize yourself with all the modes and connectivity options. That’s really the only downside I can think of – if you’re not a bit tech savvy, you may not get the best usage from this watch. So be wary about buying this watch as a gift for your grandpa if he has trouble using his laptop.

Other than that though, the Garmin Venu 2 is a really impressive watch that gives you everything you need to play your best round of golf and then some.
