Are Tour Edge E722 Irons Good for High Handicappers? – Are They Forgiving for Beginners?

The Tour Edge E722 were made to help people hit the ball more accurately and it really shows when you play these irons. Right-missers are especially going to want to play close attention as we review and critique these irons.

As far as construction goes, there’s nothing fancy to speak of. They have sort of the traditional features that we are seeing more and more in game-improvement irons including the 360 degree undercut design and the TPU injected head.

But the Tour Edge E722 irons can certainly help high handicap players if they are struggling with a rightward miss. The extreme toe weighting helps to stretch the sweet spot outward and it produces a very straight shot if you tend to hit out towards the toe.

Overview of the Tour Edge E722 Irons

The Tour Edge E722’s are cavity back irons that feature variable face thickness.

The variable face thickness improves forgiveness on mis-hits. Our testers were still having a bit of trouble with heel shots but in general, you still get good ball speed on mis-hits. It’s important to note also that these are pretty strong-lofted irons.

For instance, the 9-iron in this set checks in at 37 degrees. You get a very low, piercing launch out of them but the angle of descent was still pretty impressive much to our surprise.

Naturally, the distance is inherently boosted with such strong lofts. To counteract the strong lofts a bit, the Tour Edge E722 irons feature 360 degree undercuts. This effectively lowers the CG to produce a higher launch.

Overall though, you get more ball speed and distance due to the much stronger loft characteristics. Again, the construction is nothing to write home about. These are your standard stainless steel irons.

All the being said though, distance was phenomenal. For instance, the 7-iron was producing an average distance of 180 yards after three swings.

What Type of Irons Are They?

The Tour Edge E722 irons are definitely game-improvement irons. Almost every aspect of their design is geared towards helping the player hit  straighter and longer.

How Forgiving Are the Irons for High Handicappers?

That depends. If you are dealing with a fade, these irons will be great for you. However, if you already tend to draw the ball, you may have some issues with these irons. It’s very easy to pull the ball left with them so just keep that in mind.

Even with a draw though, these irons produced very impressive distance. We would recommend them to high handicappers struggling with a fade.

Shaft Options

The Tour Edge E722 irons come in both graphite and steel shafts.

You can choose from models like True Temper XP85, KBS TGI Tour Graphite 70 and Fujikura Ventus Blue 6-A. They come in senior, regular, stiff and ladies flex.

Workability Assessment

In terms of workability, you don’t get a lot of wiggle room.

Again, we found that these irons easily pull to the left so you will have to be very mindful when you are trying to work the ball around traps and hazards. We liked the launch and descent angles we were getting from the wedges and short irons though.

They excelled at biting onto fast greens especially when considering how strong the lofts are. The same could not be said of the long irons though. Overshooting the green was definitely an issue. Even when we were able to land the green with the long irons, roll was a bit excessive.

Again, we can contribute this to the strong lofts and in general, high handicappers and beginners won’t take issue with the added distance. So if you are struggling with distance in your long irons, you may find that the Tour Edge E722’s are a perfect fit.

Distance Assessment

Distance is certainly a strong point with these irons.

As long as you have a moderately accurate swing, you will be able to get good distance from these irons. The strong lofts coupled with the extreme toe weighting makes for a powerful combo – even if you have to compensate a bit for a draw.

Accuracy & Consistency Assessment

Repeatable distances were pretty good. However, these irons have a bit of a wild streak.

They feel a bit unstable and unwieldy on full swings. You have to be very careful and almost intentionally cut swing in order to control the draw.

Do They Have A Beginner-Friendly Price?

Definitely. You can pick up a graphite set for around $900 while the Tour Edge E722 irons in steel will cost you around $700.
