TaylorMade by now is a household name amongst the golfing community. Years and years of dominating the metal wood category, and recently having the best players in the world playing their product, TaylorMade sits on the top of most people’s lists when it comes to their product.
The SIM and SIM2 range is nothing short of some of their best products they have ever made. SIM, which stands for Shape In Motion, is more prominent in their driver, however there is still an element to the design that incorporates aerodynamics into the shape of the head.
Let’s jump into some more details below.
Taylormade SIM Fairway Overview
TaylorMade has built a multi-material fairway wood, which with the heavy V Steel sole allows them to position weight in the head ultra-low for optimized CG.
V Steel is back in their design, and they claim it is better than ever. There is a 80g v-shaped sole plate, which is designed to improve turf interaction
It has a multi-material construction along with the 80g V Steel sole, allowing them to push the CG extremely low for improved launch and performance.
This year the fairway woods have TwistFace in them, long story short TaylorMade has twisted the toe and heel area to increase accuracy and ultimately distance on off center strikes.
TaylorMade is using a Zatech Titanium on the face, this very strong but flexible titanium allows for faster ball speeds.
Speed Pocket is another technology that TaylorMade keeps on improving, this year they claim to have improved it even more, this increases sole flexibility, which promotes additional ball speed on shots struck low on the face.
The SIM is also adjustable, it has a +- 2 degree loft sleeve.

The SIM2 also has a multi-material construction, with its precise weight distribution on the sole for extremely low CG, it gives you incredible distance, with a high launching ball flight and low spin.
V Steel is once again included in the TaylorMade SIM2 fairway. They have been able to redistribute the weight for even better launch characteristics and improved forgiveness, while still improving turf interaction on every shot.
In 2021 TaylorMade hasn’t changed much from the previous model, but the changes they have made have been significant. They have made the SIM2 into a 170cc sized head, they made the head more compact, which allowed them to place the weight even more precisely than before. This gives you the ultimate Tour-preferred fairway wood.
TwistFace is yet again incorporated into their fairway wood, to make things short TaylorMade has twisted the toe and heel area of the club to increase accuracy and ultimately distance on mis-hits.
TaylorMade is using an ultra strong titanium in the SIM2 called Zatech Titanium, this type of material will increase ball speeds like you have never seen before.
An improved Speed Pocket is also featured this year, they claimed to have increased sole flexibility, this will give you more ball speed in low struck shots.
The SIM2 is also adjustable, it has a +- 2 degree loft sleeve.

TaylorMade SIM Fairway First Impressions
It was love at first sight, everything about this club just oozes confidence. The paint lines, the shape, to how square it sits, the SIM fairway is magnificent.
We definitely saw ball speeds like we have never seen before, the Zatech Titanium they claim gives you more speed clearly works.
With all that ball speed you wouldn’t expect much forgiveness, but boy were we wrong, all the technology built into it works like a charm. The Speed Pocket and V Steel sole work hand in hand, low struck shots still have great ball speeds and every shot slides through the turf with ease.
TwistFace is something sent from the golfing Gods, heel and toe struck shots fly much straighter than we have seen before, don’t get us wrong, they don’t fly straight down the middle, but the ball definitely doesn’t go as far left or right than you would normally expect.
We loved the adjustability of the club, it allowed us to really get the club dialed in.
TaylorMade SIM Fairway Family
TaylorMade has two additional fairways in this line up, both are more forgiving than the standard SIM model.
The SIM Max model is built for the mid to high handicap player, it has all the same features compared to the except two, the SIM Max is made from C300 Steel, which you see in most manufactures fairway woods, and it is not adjustable. This makes the club slightly more forgiving, higher spinning and higher launching, but will see you lose some ball speed and workability.
The third model is the SIM Max D, built the same as the SIM Max model, however the weight is placed towards the heel of the club, giving it a draw bias shape.
TaylorMade SIM2 First Impressions
The first thing we noticed about this model is the size of the head, compared to the SIM the 170cc makes the SIM2 a much smaller looking club, definitely something to consider when purchasing the club.
Maybe it’s because of the more compacted head, but my word did we see some crazy ball speeds. The Zatech Titanium and precise weighing really complement each other here, these ball speeds were some of the fastest we have ever seen.
The V Steel and Speed Pocket worked like a charm, unbelievable turf interaction on every shot, the club just slid through the turf with ease, and all low struck shots kept their ball speeds up.
TwistFace is remarkable, shots struck towards the heel and toe, came out much straighter and further than we would expect with any other club.
The adjustability allowed us to get really dialed.
TaylorMade SIM2 Fairway Family
The TaylorMade SIM2 has two other models in its range.
The SIM2 Max is going to be your more forgiving option compared to the SIM2, it has all the same technology as the SIM2 except it has a C300 steel head and is none adjustable. It is more forgiving with higher launch, so it will be aimed more towards the mid to high handicap player.
The third model is the SIM2 Max D, exactly the same features as the SIM2 Max, however the weight is placed towards the heel, this gives it a slight draw bias, handy for those of you that struggle with a fade.

Who is The TaylorMade SIM Fairway For?
The TaylorMade SIM fairway is definitely for a low handicap golfer. You will need some good clubhead speed to get the ball up in the air as it is very low spinning.
The forgiveness is incredible for such a hot face, the adjustability is great, as it allows you to really get dialed in.

Who Is The TaylorMade SIM2 Fairway For
TaylorMade SIM2 is a Tour looking head, it has a small profile, so it will definitely suit the better golfer.
It is very low spinning, meaning you will need some good clubhead speed to get the ball up in the air.
The adjustability is great, it allows you to dial in the face angle and loft.
