Over the years Callaway has made some unbelievable metal woods. A few years ago they incorporated an A.I machine into the design of their products. They claim this has accelerated their products’ technology, the R&D of this machine is much faster than any human engineer, meaning their products are far more advanced than any current metal woods and irons on the market.
Callaway have the most played metal woods on all major tours, giving them the validation that their products are world class. The Big Bertha is a game improvement model, where the Mavrik is well known amongst the world’s best. Both the Big Bertha B21 and Mavrik have similar technology.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 Fairway Overview
The Big Bertha has a shallow face, this makes the contact with the ground incredibly consistent and helps with turf interactive, allowing the club to slide through the ground with ease.
It is slightly longer than normal, giving you extra distance. It also has a slightly larger head size, again giving you some much needed distance and making it much more forgiving.
Their advanced A.I. design gives you more ball speeds across the entire face. The Big Bertha B21 also has their famous Jailbreak bars, this increases stiffness and promotes even more ball speed.
The Big Bertha B21 has a slight offset, this helps reduce any slice you may have. This will also increase distance because it will reduce spin.
Because of the A.I design, they have been able to position the weight in the head in a specific position, creating more forgiveness.
Callaway Mavrik Fairway Overview
Like all Callaways latest metal woods, the Mavrik is optimized by their famous A.I machine.
The new Flash Face SS20 is forged from multiple materials, these materials are specially designed for each model and loft, to give you the most ball speed possible. The club is forged from C300 maraging steel, this material is incredibly strong, increasing ball speeds and forgiveness.
The Mavrik fairway wood has their famous Jailbreak technology in it, there are two bars that support the face of the fairway wood, this allows Callaway to make the face thinner, giving you more ball speed.
Each model has a unique leading edge, this makes the club easy to launch, and improves turf interaction.
The Mavrik fairway wood has a single fixed weight in the sole, this pulls the CG low and back in the head for high launch.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 Fairway First Impressions
At first the price seemed a bit off putting, can something that is so much cheaper than the top of the range models actually compete with the best?
Boy were we wrong, this fairway wood is the high handicap golfers dream. It is so easy to launch and the design of the head will give anyone confidence.
The larger profile and slight offset, will work well for a high handicap golfer struggling with a slice.
The A.I technology and Jailbreak technology work very well, from the get go we could see the forgiveness was outstanding and ball speeds were high. Something any high handicap golfer would die for.
Just be careful, this club is truly aimed at a high handicap player, it spins quite a lot which helps the ball get up in the air, and the offset is quite prominent. If you are someone that draws the ball, we suggest looking at a different fairway wood, the offset will cause you to hook the ball.
It is not adjustable, this may be off putting to some of the better golfers.

Callaway have designed this club to stand on its own, it is purely a game improvement club.
If the Big Bertha B21 fairway wood is not for you, then we suggest looking at something like the Mavrik or Epic Flash, these two options will have less of an offset, and promote a lower spin rate, allowing you to control the ball more.
Be careful as the head size will be smaller and it will have less forgiveness.
Callaway Mavrik First Impressions
When we heard about the technology being put into this fairway wood, we knew it was going to be something special.
From our first few shots we could see that the ball speed off the face was phenomenal. They were some of the fastest ball speeds we have seen.
It is clear that Jailbreak technology was working wonders. The unique sole design also made a huge difference, we noticed even miss struck shots still launch how you would expect them to off the center of the face.
The look and sounds can’t go unmentioned, from the top the Mavrik looks great, the small head shape actually gave us confidence when standing over it. The sound on every strike was incredible, there is no way to describe it, it just sounded like it was going far.
Our only downside is that it is not adjustable, we feel every metal wood should be adjustable. Why not? It gives you the ability to dial in your spin, launch characteristics and get the club sitting exactly how you would like it.
Callaway Mavrik Fairway Family
The Callaway Mavrik family has two additional models. The Mavrik Max and Mavrik Sub Zero.
The Mavrik Max is going to be your offset model, giving it a slit draw bias, this is great for anyone struggling with a slice, other than the offset and weight being in the heel, it has exactly the same characteristics compared to the standard Mavrik model. The Mavrik Max is going to launch and spin slightly higher than the standard version.
The Mavrik Sub Zero, its lower spinning, lower launching model, it is definitely for your better player, you are going to need a fast swing speed to get the ball off the ground. It is also less forgiving, not making it suitable for the higher handicap golfer.
All three models are not adjustable, we find this very strange, so if you are looking for an adjustable fairway wood, you are going to have to look elsewhere.

Who Is The Callaway Mavrik Fairway For
The Callaway Mavrik is aimed towards the mid handicap golfer, it is placed so much in the middle that you might even find some low or high handicap players liking it.
With all Callaways top technology in the Mavrik, the ball speeds and forgiveness are going to be at the top of their class.
Not being adjustable might be the only off putting factor for some.
