Taylormade M2 Vs. Taylormade M6 Driver Comparison Overview

The M line of drivers from Taylormade is about as storied as it gets when you are talking about golf clubs. Through the M family, some of the most innovative technologies were introduced – technologies that are still present in Taylormade golf clubs and even the golf clubs of other manufacturers.

Because of the fame and prestige, it can be hard to make a final decision. To that end, we have composed today’s comparison article to help you decide which is better for you: the Taylormade M6 or the Taylormade M2 driver.

Taylormade M2 Driver Overview

The Taylormade M2 still has a few advantages on it’s successor; the Taylormade M6 driver.

For one thing, we found the construction materials to be superior on the M2 when compared to the Taylormade M6 driver. The carbon crown (which is also present in the M6) works in conjunction with the titanium body to produce a very solid and stable feel on impact.

Both the M6 and M2 drivers have a swing weight of D3 so they will be nice and comfortable for high handicap and slow swing speed players. The Taylormade M2 driver also features an adjustable loft sleeve which we found to be very helpful when opening or closing the face was necessary.

If you are looking for a happy medium between the M6 and M2 though, consider the M4 which ups the ante a bit in terms of distance from the M2 and produces faster ball speeds than the M6.

Taylormade M6 Driver Overview

The Taylormade M6 was overall more forgiving than the M2 and was helping our higher handicap players produce straighter shots.

First of all, there is a massive 46 gram weight in the extreme rear of this driver which is supported by an elongated sole panel that Taylormade calls the “Inertia Generator” (the inertia generator makes further appearances in subsequent Taylormade models).

The Taylormade M6 also features the famous Twist Face technology that corrects mis-hits and produces very straight shots. While that does mean this driver is almost unworkable, it will be a huge benefit for new players.

Despite the lack of premium materials, we feel that the Taylormade M6 has more to offer mid to high handicappers than the M2. It is more forgiving, plays a bit longer and produces straighter shots even if  it does have less of a premium feel.

Taylormade M2 Driver

In 20 Words Or Less

The Taylormade M2 driver feels amazing on the downswing and it’s really hard to miss the fairway with it.

Taylormade M6 Driver

In 20 Words Or Less

The Taylormade M6 does a little more of everything that the M4 driver does.

Taylormade M2 First Impressions

The first thing we noticed about the Taylormade M2 driver was how light it felt and how well it cut through the air on the downswing.

This driver will feel really good for anyone with a slower swing speed. It cuts through the air like a dream and delivers smooth, buttery contact when you pure it.

The M Family

The M2 is joined by the M6 and M4 drivers. The M6 more closely resembles the SIM drivers from Taylormade as it has an even more pronounced rear weight. The M4 is a bit more subtle but does have a more satisfying sound and feel than both the M2 and M6.

Taylormade M6 First Impressions

The Taylormade M6 certainly looks more intimidating than the M4at first glance but once you pick it up you can feel how light and wieldy it truly is.

The Taylormade M6 features a carbon sole to help offset the additional 46 grams of weight placed in the back of the head. It was very comfortable to swing and we got an instant boost in distance.

The M Family

The M6 is joined by, of course, the M4 and the M2. By comparison, the M2 is a bit lighter than the M6 but ultimately plays shorter.

Who is the Taylormade M6 for?

The Taylormade M6 would be a great choice for high to mid handicappers.

You get a good amount of distance and forgiveness help with the Taylormade M6 driver. The twist face does make it difficult to work. So just like with the M4 driver, the M6 is not an ideal choice for more seasoned players.

We also really like how the weight pulls your swing down ever so slightly to produce high launch. The extreme rear weight also helps distribute energy from your swing all over the face so you still get pretty impressive ball speed when you miss the sweet spot.
