PXG 0211 Driver Vs. Big Bertha B21 Comparison And Review

While the PXG 0211 driver is billed as the company’s most accessible and forgiving, we had our doubts. How accessible is it compared to a driver like say, the Big Bertha B21 – a driver known to be long, straight, forgiving and a dream for high handicappers.

We know this is quite a yardstick to compare the PXG 0211 to but we felt it our duty to test it against one of the most forgiving drivers currently on the market. Let’s see how the PXG 0211 fared against the Big Bertha.

Big Bertha B21 Driver Overview

One of the things that makes the Big Bertha so congenial for new players is the internal draw bias that helps produce straight shots.

There is an internal weight in the heel of this driver and indeed, it will help you stay on the fairway. Of course, this makes the Big Bertha virtually unworkable but that’s not the point of this driver.

The Big Bertha also has a full titanium crown which helps keep the weight of this hefty driver down.

We can attest to the fact that the Big Bertha feels light and wieldy in the hands. Helping with forgiveness is the Flash Face SS21 face architecture which increases coefficient of retention from the heel to the toe.

We could feel that we were getting better ball speed on shots struck near the toe and the heel of this driver – but certainly not near the crown and sole.

PXG 0211 Driver Overview

The PXG 0211 is loaded with premium features but it doesn’t play as naturally long as the Big Bertha.

So yes, if you are after the longer driver, the B21 will be the best choice. Still, the PXG 0211 has a better overall feel thanks to the titanium alloy face.

The crown of the PXG 0211 is also flanked by titanium around the heel and toe while the center is made from carbon fiber.

This stabilizes the head. We were also getting a more solid feel on contact with the PXG 0211 as opposed to the Big Bertha B21.

There is also a polymer insert inside this driver; but we didn’t really feel that it made a significant impact on performance.

Simply put, the PXG 0211 is the driver that will be more valuable as you get better while the Big Bertha is the driver that will be more beneficial in the here and now if you’re a high handicapper.

The PXG 0211 driver also features an adjustable hosel in a club that is a bit more forgiving than its 0811 counterpart.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 First Impressions

At first glance, the Big Bertha B21 will look inviting to high handicappers thanks to it’s oversized head.

The Driver is absolutely massive and it has a huge sweet spot which stretches in every direction on the drivers ultra thin steel face.

The weighting is low and deep in the head which leads to a low CG and high MOI, meaning long, high and straight shots.

The driver has all the stability you would expect from a Callaway too with it’s internal jailbreak bars.

The driver has considerably offset too, so if you suffer from a slice, this one is going to be an excellent choice.

It’s pretty easy to start upping your drive distance with the first few swings of the Big Bertha B21 due to it’s massive head and deep weighting.

This can be considered a super game improvement driver that will help you take your game to the next level.

Big Bertha Family

The Big Bertha rides solo but their are plenty of other options from Callaway for players looking for a different type of driver like the Mavrik and Epic Ranges.

PXG 0211 First Impressions

We were excited to see an adjustable hosel in what is essentially meant to be an entry-level PXG driver (if such a thing exists).

After the first swing, we were taken aback at how soft and smooth this driver felt. We credit this to the railed sole design which increase MOI but also adds stability by bracing the heel and toe.

The honeycombed polymer insert in the head doesn’t hurt either. Plus, the fact that you can shape shots better with the adjustable hosel actually makes this driver a great value.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 – Who is it for?

The Callaway Big Bertha B21 would be most beneficial for high handicappers who are looking for a driver that will help them produce straighter shots that actually make it onto the fairway.

The performance of the Callaway Big Bertha B21 is pretty straightforward – literally. It produces long, straight shots.

In fact, the Big Bertha was yielding an increase of distance for us by an average of 6 yards. Compare that to the average distance increase of 3 yards in the Titleist Tsi2.

Big Bertha B21 Drivers

The Callaway Big Bertha B21 is the only one in the family.

However, you can take a look at older models which have a different footprint and head shape than the B21.

In fact, older versions may be even more congenial to beginners and high handicappers.

PXG 0211 Driver – Who is it for?

The PXG 0211 driver is actually more forgiving than the 0811 so it would be more suitable for mid handicap players that need a little help with shot shaping.

We love the fact that PXG paired a high forgiveness driver with an adjustable hosel. While this driver still isn’t as forgiving as some Callaway and Taylormade entries, it is one of the most forgiving drivers that PXG has ever produced.

All in all we would say that this would be a suitable driver for a mid handicapper that already knows how to shape shots based on the nature of the hole.
