Ping i525 Vs. Ping i59 Irons Comparison & Review

Ping are well known for their player friendly irons and today we take a look at two of the newest and best.

The i525’s are fresh off the press and represent the latest generation of hollow body ‘Players Distance’ irons which give you the look and feel of a players iron with an extra club of distance.

The i59 are the slimmer version of the i525, released in 2021. These are a players performance iron for the better players but as is common nowadays, they are also more forgiving than players irons of years gone by.

Ping i59 Irons Overview

The Ping i59 is similar in looks to the i525 except you can see it is a more players friendly profile when you compare the two forged, hollow body irons head to head.

The i59 has the tungsten weighting as well, with the screw in the toe and tungsten weight in the hosel and it also has the flexible hinge in the heel area.

The i59 became instantly popular last year with their tour players and quickly amassed some wins on tour.

The clever part of these irons is that the forged steel body is hollow like the i525’s and filled with an aluminium core, 30g’s lighter than steel and this is used to add forgiveness and feel in the areas that matter.

Ping decided to add their grooves closer together and to add an extra 4 to the face which is CNC milled for more precision and control in both the long and short irons.

As a long awaited upgrade to the iBlade, the Ping i59’s are an excellent option for single digit handicappers and beyond with Victor Hofland quickly winning on the European tour with  the i59’s after their release, not a bad start!

Ping i525 Irons Overview

The i525, freshly released in 2022 are aomng the ranks of the newly emerged ‘Players Distance’ Irons which are so popular on tour and with Mid to low handicappers with consistent striking who want more distance.

These irons are in the same category as the Taylormade P790’s, Cobra King Forged Tec irons in that they offer an amazing players profile at address but also deliver an extra club in length over traditional players irons.

The 1525 are for mid – low handicappers while the i59’s are reserved for the singal digit golfers.

The thin top line of the i525 hides the chunkier sole excellently at address and the blade is short and compact for a complete players look.

The i525 has the same perimeter weighting, CNC milled grooves (4 extra) and 14-7 stainless steel body of the fi59, just a little bigger and built for distance.

Inside the face, there is EAV polymer, strategically injected to the back of the face that gives a butter soft feel, reduces vibrations and increases the size of the sweet spot.

Overall, the ballistic face of the i525’s doesn’t subtract from the feel and sound of the irons which offer excellent distance and control.

Overall Conclusion

Both of these irons are high performing and have been incredibly popular since their respective releases.

They are close in terms of the golf tec inside them but the i59s are built for the better players only with the compact blades and players profile.

The i525 are bigger headed, more forgiving and longer than the i59’s but still provide a beautiful players profile at address. Mid handicappers and beyond looking for more distance will love these irons.

Ping i525 Irons – First Impressions

The first thing to notice about the Ping i525 is the sleek looking players shape at address while the soles are still thick enough to offer distance and a towering ball flight.

The hollow body ‘Ballistic face’ construction hasd Polymer injected strategically on the inner side of the 14-7 stainless steel face for an enhanced sound and feel.

Perimeter weighting in the toe, with a visible screw and the shaft strectch the sweet spot and the face in dynamically created to deliver excellent balls speeds.

These irons feel and sound amazing but you are not going to get the same levels of feel as you will with the players irons.

Due to the higher launch and 4 extra grooves being added to the club, there is more workabilty in the longer irons and control in the shorter irons.

The player profile looks really nice in the i525’s at address, very similar to a players iron but it delivers on ball speed with the dynamic, miraging steel construction.

The hydropearl 2.0 ensures these irons perform well in wet as well as dry conditions and the additional flex in the face completes an excellent new set of Hollow Body Players Distance Irons.

Ping i59 Irons First Impressions

The Ping i59 irons felt good off the deck thanks to a strong aluminum insert that enhances feel while pushing the ball for better speeds.

What we were most surprised at though was the forgiveness of these player’s performance irons. Even though the i59’s are smaller, they are comparably forgiving on off-center shots.

A lot of weight is saved at the center of the heads of these clubs thanks to the super thin aluminum. That weight is displaced around the perimeter so you get more distance on strikes away from the sweet spot.

While you still need to be able to make consistent contact with the ball, you get a lot of help at that point even if you aren’t square up to it.

The Ping i59 irons are a good mixture of forgiveness, distance and short-game control. They don’t feel too bad either.

The i525 Family of Irons

Who are the Ping i59 Irons for?

The Ping i59 irons would be a good fit for anyone looking for a solid combination of forgiveness and greenside control.

This is a very unique set – and for this reason, we feel like the market for them might be rather small. You have to be able to strike the ball consistently with a smaller head but the MOI is ridiculous in these irons.

So they will be great for a smaller niche of players who are probably hovering around the 7, 8 9 handicap range.

The i Family

Of course, the counterpart to the Ping i59 irons are the Ping i210 irons. The bottom line is that the i59 irons have the superior feel and more compact heads.
