Ping G710 Vs Ping G730 Irons Comparison Overview

G710 Vs G730

The most forgiving version of the Ping irons has recently been released with the upgrade to the G730’s from the G710’s.

While these irons may look completely different due to Pings decision to remove the black overcoat from the irons, they are still aimed at the same level of golfer, high handicappers.

Both of these iron sets can be considered Super Game Improvement but there as some key differences and upgrades to the designs.

Ping G710 Irons Overview

“The G710s are Super game improvement irons that offer distance and forgiveness.”

The irons have a black overcoat which is one of their weaknesses as it tends to chip and wear away, revealing the real silver color of the metal underneath.

We also see the typical Ping features with the Tungsten weight in the toe and heel alongide the flexible hinge in the heel.

They are a simple cavity back design with a high MOI for beginners and eternal high handicap golfers.

Ping G730 Irons Overview

“The G730’s have a shorter blade that is wider and they have eliminated the Black coating in favour of the Hyrdopearl 2.0 finish seen in the more player friendly models.”

The Pur Flex badge has been added to the cavity which improves flexion across the face and improves sound and feel.

The lofts have also been strengthened which leads to longer distances although this is slightly offset by a lower COG which keeps the launch angle amply high.

Overall the G730’s are a considerable upgrade, long and more forgiving with a better sound and feel. Some golfers may need to use a higher launch shaft to get enough stopping power on the greens and these are aimed at high handicappers and mid handicappers who struggle to hit their irons consistently.

Ping G710 First Impressions

The Ping G710 look impressive right out of the packaging and they continue to impress once you get them on the course.

The first thing you will notice about the Ping G710 irons is the sleek, black hydropearl finish. They also feel pretty substantial in the hand. You may also notice the notched hosel which helps create more discretionary weight to be placed for optimal distance.

The muscle-back design of these irons adds to the good looks and overall performance. This design also makes the Ping G710 irons extremely shapable while at the same time providing valuable feedback on mis-hits.

The head is also slightly larger than the precious G700 irons which may be a benefit for higher handicap players. The Ping G710 irons also feature variable face thickness so you get more distance on dead-center strikes and more forgiveness on shots around the crown and sole.

Combining high-performance maraging steel with the black hydropearl finish make these irons highly desirable for their looks and performance.

Ping G730 First Impressions

“The Irons are long, forgiving and well, quite loud at impact too.”

We see all the hallmarks of the Ping Irons with the deep cavity back, the tungsten weight in the toe and the matching weight in the hosel. We also have the patented Hing towards the heel of the club to add flex to the face.

The Irons look similar to the G430’s except they are bigger and look a little bit more clean cut towards the bottom.

The Pru Flex cavity badge is also present to give a smoother look and feel to the clubs.

When hitting the clubs, they are confidence inspiring. It felt just like hitting a hybrid, in fact, the face was even a little bigger and more inviting.

The problem we encountered was the lower spin rates and the ball running off the back of the green at times.

Who Are The Ping G710 Irons For?

The Ping G710 will suit a variety of performance needs whether you are a beginner or advanced player.

The great thing about these irons is that they provide a lot of value for a wide variety of players. Beginners will love the forgiveness and easy distance while more advanced players will love the high-arcing shots and shaping capability.

If we had to choose one specific group of players who could benefit the most from these clubs though, we’d have to pick beginners and high-handicappers.

They provide a bit more in terms of distance and forgiveness than they do accuracy and scoring.

The G Series From Ping

The Ping G series irons has a set for players of every skill level.

The G series of irons is one of the most diverse lines of golf clubs currently on the market. The G700 will suit intermediate players looking to break into the low handicap region while the G710’s will be more congenial to beginners.

It’s clear that Ping wanted the G series to be representative of as many kinds of players as possible.

Who Are the Ping G730 Irons for?

There is no doubt that these irons are catered towards high handicappers, senior players(Correct Shaft) and those who are new to the game.

You are not going to draw the ball around too many Dog Legs with the G730’s but they are great and keeping the ball moving long and straight.

You get what you see with the G730’s, they play how they look, long and straight.

There is no doubt that these are excellent clubs but consider a second hand set if you are new to the game or are a high handicpper for life. There are cheaper options offering similar performance.

Always get your shaft game on point as well.
