Ping i530 Vs Ping G730 Irons Review
Two of the latest offerings from Ping in today’s review, its the players distance irons for mid handicappers in the i530’s and it is the Super long and forgiving game improvement irons in the G730’s.
Ping i530 Irons Overview
The Ping i530 irons are in the middle of the range in terms of playability when it comes to Ping irons.
They hollow body players distance irons, a competitive market segment for mid handicappers who want more distance to hunt the pin from further out.
With that being said they have a sort of players styling, even if it is a bit boxy and muscular. It’s not going to be any where near as clunky as the G730’s nor as compact as the i230 players irons.
The i530’s feature strengthened lofts from their predecessor a thinner wall behind the forged face insert and a lower COG to keep the launch angles decent.
The sound and feel is more powerful and smooth too than the “clicky” sound of the i525’s.
Overall an interesting choice for mid handicap golfers with aspirations from improvement in a crowded market segment.
Ping G730 Irons Overview
The Ping G730’s are not even the next in line for forgiveness for Ping as the Ping G430’s are the best game improvement iron for high to mid handicappers.
The G730’s have even bigger blades than the G430’s and they are all about distance and forgiveness. They are super game improvement irons that almost perform like hybrids. Long and straight without much spin and workablility.
The ball flight is quite low so stopping the ball on the greens maybe a bit diificult, but you could always throw in a few G430’s in the shorter irons and wedges to complete a mixed set.
Overall the G730s are for high handicappers. casual golfers and those who eternally struggle with their irons.
The i530s are a step up from game improvement for mid handicappers with their eyes on lowering their score and one step in the right direction towards gaming blades.

Ping i530 Irons – First Impressions
“They look similar to the i525’s but a little boxier and stronger looking. Then you get them on the trackman and they sound better and fly longer.”
The i520’s are a hollow body players distance iron aimed at mid handicap players who want to pin hunt from further out in the hopes of increasing the number of birdies they can get without sacrificing performance.
The back wall of the face has been thinned to increase smash factor, flex and forgiveness. The polymer inside the head ensures a powerful yet smooth sound and feel.
The lofts have been strengthened and the COG has been lowered and deepened to ensure more distance while keeping spin rates and stopping power at acceptable levels.
The heads do look nice and compact at address but there is enough club there to inspire confidence and produce impressive distances.
Extra grooves have been added to increase spin rates and overall they are a nice upgrade on the i525’s.

Ping G730 First Impressions
“The Irons are long, forgiving and well, quite loud at impact too.”
We see all the hallmarks of the Ping Irons with the deep cavity back, the tungsten weight in the toe and the matching weight in the hosel. We also have the patented Hing towards the heel of the club to add flex to the face.
The Irons look similar to the G430’s except they are bigger and look a little bit more clean cut towards the bottom.
The Pru Flex cavity badge is also present to give a smoother look and feel to the clubs.
When hitting the clubs, they are confidence inspiring. It felt just like hitting a hybrid, in fact, the face was even a little bigger and more inviting.
The problem we encountered was the lower spin rates and the ball running off the back of the green at times.
