Ping G410 Vs. Cobra LTDx Driver Comparison & Review

Players who love premium features (and who aren’t keen on spending thousands on a single club) tend to flock to companies like Cobra and Ping. Both are examples of how premium build materials and painstaking manufacturing processes can improve actual gameplay.

So when the new Cobra LTDx driver came out we were immediately intrigued by the thought of testing it against some of Ping’s drivers. Today we are sharing our experience testing the Cobra LTDx against the Ping G410 driver.

Ping G410 Driver Overview

The Ping G410 is a dream for high to mid handicappers.

That’s because it provides the versatility that these kinds of players need. Whether you are fighting against a rightward or leftward miss, the Ping G410 has a moveable weight that can shift CG to the draw, neutral or fade positions.

The face is also made from premium forged titanium which feels exquisite while delivering incredibly hot ball speeds. To top it all off, the crown of this driver was painstakingly formed to be incredibly thin and light.

These advanced features add up to a club that plays light and fast. Our testers were even able to work the ball to a high degree with the G410 thanks in part to the 455CC head. While this did hamper forgiveness a bit, accuracy was still considerable.

Cobra LTDx Driver Overview

A milled face with 15 different thickness zones, carbon fiber sole and crown and a titanium chassis highlight the premium features of the Cobra LTDx.

These features alone were enough to make the Cobra LTDx driver fast and forgiving. Couple all that with 19 grams of weight in the front and 15 grams of weight in the back and you have a driver that carries for days as well.

Our testers were averaging drive distances of 232 yards with the Cobra LTDx driver. Compare that to the Ping G410 average distance of 218 yards and you can see why most of our testers actually preferred the Cobra LTDx.

It’s not as light as the Ping G410 but workability is comparable. Ball speeds were also significantly higher with the Cobra LTDx driver.

Both of these drivers have premium features that we love. The Ping G410 has a more responsive face; but the Cobra LTDx driver will help you send missiles down the fairway. Overall, we like how all the features of the Cobra LTDx driver work together more than the G410.

Cobra LTDx Driver – First Impressions

Needless to say, we were pretty excited to get our hands on this new Cobra driver.

And while it wasn’t quite what we were expecting, it still smacked of that same old Cobra innovation. We weren’t quite expecting the Cobra LTDx to be such a “game-improvement” driver. But the higher handicap testers in our group were pleasantly surprised. Plus, the Cobra LTDx isn’t the only release in this model…

The LTD Family

Included in this new line of LTD drivers is the LTDx LS and the LTDx Max. The LS has the most forward-positioned weight so as you can imagine, it has the lowest spin rates. Of course, that means detracting a bit from MOI so it is not quite as forgiving as the Cobra LTDx. But if max forgiveness is what you’re after then you should be looking at the LTDx Max. It produces the highest launch and has an extra rear-weight to increase forgiveness.

Ping G410 Driver – First Impressions

The first thing you will notice about the G410 is the amazing feel at impact.

We expect excellent performance from a Ping driver and the G410 doesn’t disappoint.

Tungsten weighting in the head and toe strecth the massive sweet spot for extra forgiveness.

Thanks to the amazing T9S titanium used to build the face of this driver, you get incredible responsiveness, ball speed and feedback.

The Trajectory tuning 2.0 allows you to adjust the loft and lie by a couple of degrees to perfectly optimize the club for your own particular game.

The streamlined, tubulator technology keeps the aerodynamic design that offers maximum swing speeds while the dragon fly technology keeps the stability in the club for even the fastest swingers.

Another point to notice is that the head is slightly smaller than the legal limit of 460cc at 455 cc’s.

While not as long as the Epic Max, it does have a better feel and more acute ball flight control overall.

The G410 Family

The G410 also comes in the SFT version. The SFT has fixed perimeter weighting to increase MOI which offers the best all round performance

The LST is the low spin model which will help to keep the ball flying more straight, more often.

The heel-oriented CG will also help correct your slice better than the standard G410.

Who is the Cobra LTDx Driver for?

With the Cobra LTDx driver, Cobra went straight down the middle of the road – and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

That phrase usually has a bad connotation attached to it for mediocrity but that is not what we mean here. The Cobra LTDx does a good job of straddling the line between forgiveness and fast ball speed. It features a new H.O.T. face which separates the face into 15 different sections. The 15 different sections represent different thicknesses to accommodate for common mis-hit areas.

It also features a titanium chassis that helps increase stability in the mid section without significantly increasing weight.

For beginners and high handicappers though, the real star of the show is the rear tungsten weighting. While we have to admit, this is a common and rather basic feature in game-improvement drivers, it still makes a low-spin driver more accessible to higher handicap players.

Ping G410 – Who Are They For?

The Ping G410 driver will work best for mid handicappers who make consistent contact but are looking for enhanced workability.

Overall, the Ping G410 driver has a great level of feel with its more compact head. It’s a matter of titanium vs. stainless steel.

The G410 driver rocks a titanium face while other drivers utilize stainless steel. The T9S face of the G410 driver felt better to us but that may just be a matter of opinion.

The customization options, adjustability and thin face offer a ton of performance in all aspects of the game.

Higher handicap and inconsistent players may not be able to get much use out of the G410 with it’s smaller 455cc head.

The Plus version of the G410 has a fixed weight and offers the most balanced performance. Great for those who are consistent with their strikes.

The LST version has lower spin and is more forgiving for those who struggle to keep the ball on the fairway.
