Dynamic Gold S400 Vs Dynamic Gold X100 Shaft Comparison Overview
The Dynamic Gold S400 and X100 shafts from True Temper are both tour issue and tour weighted shafts.
In fact, these are some of the heaviest steel iron shafts that True Temper produces. So right away, you should know that you’ll need a pretty fast swing speed to wield either of these shafts.
But there is more to the story than that. In the following comparison overview, we will tell you about the more subtle performance and feel differences of these two shafts.
Dynamic Gold S400 Overview
“Dynamic Gold S400 is a stiff flex shaft that weighs 132 grams.”
At 132 grams, I was really expecting this shaft to feel like a piece of rebar. But was amazed to discover that the Dynamic Gold S400 does not feel overly stiff.
It has a very faint but present kick point high in the shaft that activates on a really powerful swing.
Generally, it has a stout feel. But anyone swinging above 95 MPH should be able to get a smooth reaction out of it. The Dynamic Gold S400 produces incredibly stable ball flight even on mis-hits.
I found it easy to hit a very light draw. On the flipside, it was actually difficult to hit wider draws or fades when I wanted to.
Still, the Dynamic Gold S400 was more congenial to my slightly aggressive tempo in terms of pure distance.
Dynamic Gold X100 Overview
“The Dynamic Gold X100 is an extra stiff shaft that weighs 130 grams.”
It’s a bit confounding that the extra stiff version of this shaft is actually lighter than the stiff version, but I digress.
The X100 felt much stouter than the Dynamic Gold S400 somehow; but as expected, produced slightly better club head speeds.
Even more confusing was the fact that the faster club head speed was not translating to more distance. I was able to work the spin up a bit more to squeeze more workability out of the X100 though.
And like the Dynamic Gold S400, the X100 produced very stable flight on nearly all types of contact.
“If I wanted the more workable shaft, amazingly I would reach for the Dynamic Gold X100.
But for my swing speed and transition, the Dynamic Gold S400 worked better for me overall. It gave me more distance which I like despite the lesser workability.”
