Callaway Mavrik Vs Titleist TS2 Drivers Comparison And Review 2021

The Titleist TS2 and Mavrik drivers have a lot in common. Both were designed to increase ball speed by reshaping the head to a more aerodynamic design. Both were designed to increase forgiveness across the face.

They even have some of the same features. They are different in key ways however and if you are having trouble deciphering what those differences are, take a look at the following comparison.

Titleist TS2 Driver Overview

The TS line of drivers from Titleist were borne of the demand by top players in the game to increase ball speed.

To address this demand, Titleist paired a newly designed, aerodynamic head shape that was intended to cut drag by 20% over previous model with thin cast titanium crown. The weight savings and shape are really noticeable when you take a swing too.

However, we weren’t really seeing a dramatic increase in swing speed or ball speed with the TS2. We were however, noticing that the TS2 driver was plenty forgiving. We were achieving impressive ball speeds on off-center shots thanks in part to the Variable Face Thickness architecture.

The TS2 also promises lower spin rates off the tee but our testing found that it produced sort of middle of the road spin rates – certainly not as low as some driver but lower than a lot.

Callaway Mavrik Driver Overview

The Callaway Mavrik driver is sort of a middle ground between a distance driver and a game-improvement driver.

In other words, it does a lot of things to help performance but doesn’t do any one thing extraordinarily well. Perhaps the best thing about this driver is that it does play long if you hit it just right.

The Cyclone Aero head shape was in dded more aerodynamic than that of the TS2 so swing speed was helped marginally. This is what seemed to help with distance more than anything else. The Callaway Mavrik also features an adjustable hosel for a decent degree of shot shaping.

However, the Callaway Mavrik was not as forgiving as the TS2. The Flash Face SS20 build of the Mavrik Face emphasizes ball speed in the sweet spot; but not so much anywhere else.

The Mavrik felt more substantial from the tee and this was affirmed by the 2-3 extra yards we were gaining with it over the Titleist TS2 driver. However, neither drivers had exceptional feel or control.

The Tsi2 marries the amazing feel of a premium tour-grade driver with the forgiveness features of an entry-level driver.

Mavrik Driver – First Impressions

Once you get passed the bright colors and attractive design, you can immediately see how light and wieldy the Mavrik drivers really are.

The face on the club is huge and it gives you the confidence you need to let the driver rip, even on the first tee with a crowd gathered to watch. The face is also ultra thin, ultra light special steel which sends the ball into orbit on contact.

Two internal jailbreak bars on under side of the club hold everything together by connecting the sole with the crown and adding extra stability, feel, consistency and distance. The shape of the driver is also aerodynamic and like everything with the clubs, focused on more swing speed.

The Different Mavrik Driver Versions:

The Mavrik is for your average player or mid handicapper, medium levels of forgiveness, and mid spin. This one has a standard launch angle too.

The Mavrik max is similar with more forgiveness and a higher ball flight for higher handicappers

The Mavrik Pro has a 450cc head, less forgiveness and spin and higher emphasis on distance for low handicappers and fast swingers.

Titleist Tsi2 First Impressions

At first, the Titleist Tsi2 doesn’t look like much. But it’s a driver that has to be swung to be believed.

One of the things that really helps bump this driver up a few points is the adjustable hosel.

It is no secret in the golf world that the majority of tour pros that aren’t sponsored are using Titleist and it is the majority of the winners too.

The Tsi2 provides an excellent blend of forgiveness, feel and distance to take your game to the next level.

This customization of loft and lie angles adds instant value to this driver.

However, it’s the feel of this driver at impact that really steals the show.

The Tsi Family

The Titleist Tsi2 is the most ofrgiving driver in the Tsi fanily which also includes the Tsi1, Tsi3 and Tsi4. The Tsi4 is for lower handicap players and features a 425cc head.

The Tsi3 would be best for mid to low handicap players and the Tsi1 is a lightweight version but produces considerable spin off the tee.

The Titleist Tsi2 would be best for low to mid handicappers who want a great-feeling driver.
