Callaway Mavrik Vs Callaway Big Bertha B21 Drivers Comparison And Review 2021

In a lot of ways, players feel that the Big Bertha B21 is the true successor of the Callaway Mavrik driver. It delivers in a lot of the ways that the older Mavrik driver did and improves on a lot of the same aspects of performance.

However, Callaway maintains that the Big Bertha is a super game-improvement driver compared to the Mavrik. We wanted to see just what the differences were between these two drivers so we tested them out for ourselves.

Callaway Mavrik Driver Overview

The Callaway Mavrik builds upon the success of older drivers like the Rogue and has many of the same features that would appear in subsequent models.

One of these common features being the Flash Face technology. Flash Face technology is essentially ripples that extend form the heel to the toe on the face. The purpose of these ripples is to increase coefficient of restitution – or how much energy is preserved after an impact between two objects.

The Mavriks have the older Flash Face SS20 which is made from stainless steel. It does do a good job of producing good ball speed – if you can find the sweet spot. We also liked the fact that the Aero Cyclone shaping of the Mavrik head was helping with our swing speed.

Overall, this would be an ideal driver for mid handicappers who aren’t so much struggling with accuracy as they are with distance.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 Driver Overview

On the other hand, the Big Bertha driver was designed to be the most forgiving Callaway driver ever.

The Big Bertha B21 driver plays long and straight. We could almost end this overview with that statement but we won’t. The Big Bertha’s have an updated Flash Face SS21 face which is also made of stainless steel.

Only the COR improvement extends to more sections of the face. The Big Bertha will be a bit heavier than the Mavrik but in general, you can expect distance increases of about 3 yards. You will also find that the Big Bertha is much more forgiving than the Mavrik.

We liked that the Mavrik was more workable of the two drivers. It’s obviously intended for mid handicappers while the Big Bertha seems to be built for beginners high handicapper who are having trouble producing straight shots. Both have their place so just be sure what your game really needs.

If straighter, longer shots are what you’re after then you would do quite well with the Callaway Big  Bertha B21.

Mavrik Driver – First Impressions

Once you get passed the bright colors and attractive design, you can immediately see how light and wieldy the Mavrik drivers really are.

The face on the club is huge and it gives you the confidence you need to let the driver rip, even on the first tee with a crowd gathered to watch. The face is also ultra thin, ultra light special steel which sends the ball into orbit on contact.

Two internal jailbreak bars on under side of the club hold everything together by connecting the sole with the crown and adding extra stability, feel, consistency and distance. The shape of the driver is also aerodynamic and like everything with the clubs, focused on more swing speed.

The Different Mavrik Driver Versions:

The Mavrik is for your average player or mid handicapper, medium levels of forgiveness, and mid spin. This one has a standard launch angle too.

The Mavrik max is similar with more forgiveness and a higher ball flight for higher handicappers

The Mavrik Pro has a 450cc head, less forgiveness and spin and higher emphasis on distance for low handicappers and fast swingers.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 First Impressions

At first glance, the Big Bertha B21 will look inviting to high handicappers thanks to it’s oversized head.

The Driver is absolutely massive and it has a huge sweet spot which stretches in every direction on the drivers ultra thin steel face.

The weighting is low and deep in the head which leads to a low CG and high MOI, meaning long, high and straight shots.

The driver has all the stability you would expect from a Callaway too with it’s internal jailbreak bars.

The driver has considerably offset too, so if you suffer from a slice, this one is going to be an excellent choice.

It’s pretty easy to start upping your drive distance with the first few swings of the Big Bertha B21 due to it’s massive head and deep weighting.

This can be considered a super game improvement driver that will help you take your game to the next level.
