Callaway Mavrik Vs Cobra Radspeed Drivers Comparison And Review 2021

The Callaway Mavrik and Cobra Radspeed drivers are both predicated on fast ball speeds. However, they go about it in very different ways. The different ways they produce ball speed may be of particular interest to you depending on your driver preferences.

If you are having a tough time deciding between these two drivers (or drivers like them), fear not! We have tested these 2 drivers side by side and in the following overview, we will be sharing our findings with you.

Cobra Radspeed Driver Overview

The ‘Radspeed’ name comes from the radial front and back weighting that Cobra implemented in this driver.

So what is radial weighting anyway? It’s basically a hefty weight (28 grams) in the front and a smaller (10 grams) weight in the back. This split mass weighting is supposed to reduce spin off the tee and we can confirm that it does.

We were getting impressive ball speed and distance from the Radspeed due mainly to extremely reduced spin rates. Plus, 12 grams of the front weight and 2 grams of the rear weight are adjustable for shot shaping.

The Radspeed also features a milled “wrap-around” face which feels nice and helps to preserve ball speed on shots away from the sweet spot. Still, don’t expect straight shots if you miss the sweet spot with this driver.

Callaway Mavrik Driver Overview

The Callaway Mavrik approaches ball speed in a different way: by helping mid to high handicap players increase their swing speed.

The logic is simple: swing the club faster and make the ball go further. Instead of reducing spin off the tee to produce ball speed like the Radspeed driver, the Mavrik uses an aerodynamic head shape to help increase club head speed.

Indeed, we could almost feel the reduced drag when we swung the Callaway Mavrik but the distance was the proof.

While we were getting faster club head speeds, it wasn’t always translating to longer drives. Like the Radspeed, you really have to home in on the sweet spot if you want straight, long shots.

Still, the Callaway Mavrik was more stable on dead-center and off-center shots. All in all, it was the more forgiving driver.

The Callaway Mavrik will produce straighter shots and more distance away from the sweet spot. It is the longer and more forgiving driver in this comparison so we recommend checking it out first.

Mavrik Driver – First Impressions

Once you get passed the bright colors and attractive design, you can immediately see how light and wieldy the Mavrik drivers really are.

The face on the club is huge and it gives you the confidence you need to let the driver rip, even on the first tee with a crowd gathered to watch. The face is also ultra thin, ultra light special steel which sends the ball into orbit on contact.

Two internal jailbreak bars on under side of the club hold everything together by connecting the sole with the crown and adding extra stability, feel, consistency and distance. The shape of the driver is also aerodynamic and like everything with the clubs, focused on more swing speed.

The Different Mavrik Driver Versions:

The Mavrik is for your average player or mid handicapper, medium levels of forgiveness, and mid spin. This one has a standard launch angle too.

The Mavrik max is similar with more forgiveness and a higher ball flight for higher handicappers

The Mavrik Pro has a 450cc head, less forgiveness and spin and higher emphasis on distance for low handicappers and fast swingers.

Cobra Radspeed – First Impressions

“Like it’s predecessor, the Speedzone driver, the Radspeed feels light and wieldy in the hands. You can feel and hear the quality materials used after your first swing.

We were really impressed with the milled face of this driver. It feels incredible and is extremely reactive.

The Radspeed is really starting to challenging the biggest names in the driver department like the Pings, Taylormades and Titleists.

Cobra Radspeed – Who are the for?

The Cobra Radspeed driver is for low to mid handicappers who prefer forward-biased center of gravity.

The bottom line is that the Cobra Radspeed driver will produce less spin off the tee than even the Titleist Tsi3. It’s remarkably workable as well thanks to the two adjustable weights in the front and back.

Our only real gripe about this driver is that adjusting the weights is kind of tricky. It’s not as easy as the sliding weight of the Titleist TSi3 driver. The TSi3 driver also has a slew of custom shaft options.

The Radspeed Family

The Rad X B

The Rad X B has everything the Radspeed has but it offers more forgiveness and easier launch than the Radspeed.

There is less spin and that offers straighter shots

The Rad X D

The Draw version of the driver, super forgiving for High Handicappers who are prone to slicing the ball.

Check this out for the maximum straight shots for slicers.
