Aspire XD1 Men’s Complete Golf Club Set Review

Entry-level golf clubs don’t have to look shabby or perform poorly. Case in point: the Aspire XD1 complete golf club set for men.

If you are new to the game of golf, you probably have a lot of questions about gear. Firstly, should you piece together a set of your own or pick up a complete set? We honestly prefer the latter because it ensures consistency.

Consistency is something  you really need when you are first learning the game too. For today’s article, we chose the Aspire XD1 golf club set because it comes with everything new golfers need to start learning the right way.

Don’t get the wrong idea; the Aspire XD1 is strictly for beginners. That being said, it is on the higher end of beginners/distance clubs in terms of features. So if you are in the market for a beginner set of clubs, do yourself a favor and read the following article.

The Aspire XD1 golf club set has features that are usually reserved for more expensive sets.

Aspire XD1 Golf Club Set Review

Category: Beginners/Distance

What’s Included in the Set?

The set includes a premium stand bag, bag cover and three head covers. The clubs include:

A driver, #3 fairway wood, hybrid, irons 6-9, a pitching wedge and a putter.

Aspire XD1 Complete Golf Club Set – First Impressions & Club Breakdown

We were immediately smitten with how cool these clubs look. They look like a premium set of clubs from manufacturers like Callaway and Taylormade.

When we started taking swings with the Aspire XD1 clubs, we could immediately tell that they would look really nice for beginners as well. The woods all have pronounced offset which will make it much easier for new players to square up to the ball from the tee and off the deck.

The club heads are generously sized too. Accuracy is something that nearly all new players struggle with so the deep face profile and generous sweet spots will surely be a boon to beginner players.

Driver

The driver may be the most impressive club in this set. It features a 460CC head which is as large as it can get while still being tournament-legal. The head is also made of titanium alloy which is a great material for drivers due to titanium’s naturally light and strong construction. This also allows for a lot of flex in the face which will help with ball speed.

#3 Wood

The Aspire XD1 includes one fairway wood but at least it’s a nice and beefy #3. The 3 wood plays long and is very forgiving. We noticed that shots away from the sweet spot were still getting good ball speed with this 3 wood.

Hybrid

The hybrid club included in the Aspire XD1 set was a bit of a surprise. It is set to 21 degrees which makes it equivalent to a very long 3 iron. This could present some gapping issues for some players but we think Aspire chose to include a # hybrid because they really wanted to emphasize distance with this set.

Irons

You get irons 6-9 in the Aspire XD1 set which is pretty much every iron a newbie will need. All the irons feel very nicely weighted and much to our surprise, they come with True Temper steel shafts! These are cavity back irons so they are very forgiving and play nice and long. The True Temper shafts really steal the show though. True Temper shafts are solid, durable and offer great distance performance. As we said earlier, consistency is very important for all golfers (but especially beginners) and True Temper steel shafts are nothing if not consistent.

Pitching Wedge

We were a little disappointed that there was no sand wedge in the set but we were happy to see the nice, pronounced leading edge of the pitching wedge. This wedge was doing a great job of popping the ball high up in the air and landing dead on the green. The pitching wedge also imparts a good amount of spin for a beginner’s club.

Putter

You get a mallet style putter in the Aspire XD1 and perhaps the most impressive thing about it is the way it looks. It leaves a bit to be desired in terms of roll control and the face insert feels a little thick for our liking; but this is not a set that focuses completely on short-game performance in the first place.

Aspire XD1 Complete Golf Club Set Pros:

  • Very generous driver
  • The woods play very long
  • The irons feature True Temper shafts
  • All the woods have graphite shafts
  • The putter features a kinked hosel for increased visibility
  • The Aspire XD1 complete golf club set has features well outside it’s price range

Aspire XD1 Complete Golf Club Set Cons:

  • The bag feels a bit flimsy; like it won’t last for more than a season
  • We think most players are going to have gapping issues between the 3 wood and 6 iron
  • The putter doesn’t offer a lot of feedback or roll control
  • The irons aren’t very workable

Who is the Aspire XD1 Complete Men’s Golf Club Set for?

The Aspire XD1 complete men’s golf club set would be a solid choice for anyone who is just starting to play and wants a set that will play long most of all.

It bears repeating that Aspire really seemed to want to emphasize distance with this set. Almost all the clubs play effortlessly long. From the titanium alloy driver to the cavity back irons.

And this is generally a good thing because one of the first things you will have trouble with when you start playing golf is distance. A lack of distance from the tee and on the fairway will be the first thing that drives up your score so getting your distance up is always the best place to start.
