Mevo Plus Vs Skytrak Golf Simulator Comparison Review

Launch monitors are worthless if they aren’t accurate and don’t provide the shot data you really need to improve your game. Today we will be taking a look at a couple launch monitors that promise accuracy and are known for providing robust shot metrics.

It’s always important to know all the facts before you invest in a golf launch monitor/simulator. Why? Because these devices often cost a pretty penny and have different features.

Plus, you may not have any use for the kind of shot metrics that some provide. To help you find the perfect launch monitor for your needs, we have put together a comparison article that will navigate you through the features, differences and merits of the Mevo Plus and Skytrak launch monitors.

Mevo Plus Overview

The Mevo Plus from Flightscope uses advanced radar technology to provide incredibly accurate shot data.

The Mevo Plus  also measures more metrics than the standard Mevo which, by the way, was a major hit among pros and regular Joe golfers. Before we go any further, we must note that we were really impressed with the accuracy of this launch monitor.

For both long-game and short-game shots, the Mevo Plus was giving incredibly accurate readings – and short-game accuracy is usually something that radar launch monitors are notoriously bad at.

The Mevo Plus can be used with your indoor setup and it also retains a lot of accuracy for outdoor use.

SkyTrak Overview

The Skytrak is the same price as the Mevo Plus and is best for recreational use.

First of all, the Skytrak is best for indoor use. It uses a group of high-speed cameras to capture images of the ball directly after impact to yield it’s readings. As you can imagine, this means that the Skytrak gives mostly shot data.

If you are looking for more in-depth swing data then the Skytrak may not be the best choice for you. Still, the Skytrak is very accurate. In fact, in terms of accuracy, the Skytrak holds up well against much more expensive launch monitors.

The good news is that most players probably won’t be overwhelmed by the modest list of metrics that the Skytrak provides.

The Mevo Plus is quite the step up from the standard Flightscope Mevo as it provides much more info.

The Skytrak is a more basic launch monitor/simulator that may be more intuitive for recreational players.

Mevo Plus First Impressions

To be quite honest, we were a little intimidated by the sheer volume of metrics this thing provides.

To be brutally honest, we didn’t even know what to do with some of the shot data it provides. We had to look some of them up.

Key Features

The Mevo Plus features 17 practice ranges, 5 simulated golf courses, skills challenges and includes an internal camera for added accuracy.

One of the things we had to look up was lateral landing; but once we did it was all good. The Mevo Plus provides a ridiculous amount of shot data including carry distance, club head speed, apex height, smash factor, ball speed, spin rate, angle of attack, roll distance, spin axis, spin loft, shot shape and of course, total distance.

The Mevo Plus was incredibly accurate outdoors and lost just a touch of accuracy indoors as it relies on 2D Doppler radar for it’s readings. We also really appreciated the wireless Wi-Fi connection interface which made setting up indoors and outdoors very easy.

The Mevo Plus gives more information than the Skytrak but it also does not provide much swing info.

Skytrak First Impressions

The Skytrak also sets up wirelessly so it was convenient to use indoors.

We don’t like wire management so it was nice that the Skytrak sets up without any USB cables or anything. The long-game accuracy was good but short-game accuracy suffered a bit.

Key Features

The Skytrak uses photometric technology to give shot readings.

The good thing about the use of cameras as opposed to radar is that it maintains its accuracy outdoors. The Skytrak gives you only one real swing metric and that;s club head speed.

Still, it provides launch degree, side spin rates, apex height, carry distance, roll distance and of course, total distance.

The Skytrak also simulates courses nicely on your tablet  or laptop.

With fewer metrics, it’s a bit hard to reconcile the fact that the Skytrak costs as much as the Mevo Plus.

Mevo Plus Selling Points

  • Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Internal alignment camera
  • 17 practice ranges
  • 5 simulated courses
  • Lots of shot data

Skytrak Selling Points

  • Weather settings
  • Portable
  • Side angle readings
  • Wireless setup
  • Photometric readings

Who is the Mevo Plus for?

The Mevo Plus would be a great choice for scratch players and players who regularly compete in tournaments.

We’ll put it this way, the Mevo plus is used and endorsed by tour pros. Unlike the Skytrak, the Mevo Plus is not intended for recreational players.

Pros:

  • It provides very advanced shot metrics
  • Overall, it was more accurate than the SKytrak launch monitor
  • It uses both 3D Doppler radar and an alignment camera so you get the best of both worlds so to speak
  • For all the advanced metrics and accuracy, it’s still cheaper than a lot of high-end launch monitors

Cons:

  • Only 5 simulated courses
  • Currently, the simulations are only compatible with iOS

Overall Score: 94/100
