Titleist TSR2 Vs Titleist TSR3 Fairway Wood Comparison Overview

At a glance, there isn’t much that separates the Titleist TSR2 and the Titleist TSR3 fairway woods in terms of looks.

Like the TSR2 driver, the Titleist TSR2 fairway wood has a more elongated head than the TSR3.

At address, that’s pretty much the only difference between these fairway woods. But after testing both of them side-by-side, we can confidently say that they were made for different types of players. Which fairway wood will be best for you? Read on to find out!

Titleist TSR2 Fairway Wood Overview

Titleist TSR2 Driver

“The Titleist TSR2 features the SureFit adjustable hosel which affords players 16 unique loft/lie positions.”

For us, the A1 setting was ideal. This is where you will see the club sit completely square behind the ball. The Titleist TSR2 also features an ultra-low CG to make it easier to launch.

Indeed, the Titleist TSR2 was launching slightly higher than the Titleist TSR3. As you can imagine, the spin was also higher than the Titleist TSR3. But the 2400 RPM spin rate range was ideal for shaping shots and being able to land fast greens.

While stronger swingers will likely be turned off by the spin and launch, the Titleist TSR2 gives a wide array of mid handicappers the ability to shape shots and be more aggressive from the deck or tee.

Titleist TSR3 Fairway Wood Overview

“The biggest difference between the Titleist TSR2 and the Titleist TSR3 is the adjustable CG weight system.”

The Titleist TSR3 allows you to shift CG into 5 different positions from left to right. This makes it very versatile and allows players to shape shots more acutely than with the Titleist TSR2, even though the TSR3 produces lower spin numbers.

The muted spin has a lot to do with the forward-positioned internal weight. Stringer swingers will surely be drawn to the Titleist TSR3 because of the lower spin and lower launch.

And even though the Titleist TSR3 has a more traditional, symmetrical head shape than the TSR2, it doesn’t diminish forgiveness at all. The Titleist TSR3 is just as forgiving as the TSR2.

“The Titleist TSR2 will benefit slower swing speed players. But the Titleist TSR3, in our opinion, has more mass appeal. Skilled players will appreciate the lower trajectory and stronger flight. Mid handicappers will appreciate the forgiveness and the ability to cover up swing biases.”

Titleist TSR2 Fairway Wood First Impressions

Titleist TSR2 Fairway Wood2

I couldn’t believe how easy this club was to hit.

Of course well-struck shots went far but it was the off-centre hits that really impressed.

The TSR2 showed impressive distance and straightness on shots that I would have expected to be short and way off-line.

Titleist TSR3 Fairway Wood1

I love this club. The look, feel and sound of it just makes me feel fuzzy and reminds me why I love Titleist.

There is a small margin for error and misses are kinda punished, certainly more than the TSR2. It is a wonderful club that will bring joy to very talented golfers.

This club scared me a little as I knew that I had to hit it great to get the best out of it.

That isn’t a criticism, it’s how it was developed, but it is to say that you need to be hitting a lot of balls and have a great swing to make this work.

Is The Titleist TSR2 Fairway Wood Worth It?

Yes, this club will suit a huge amount of golfers and will bring you a new dimension to your bag.

Having another option from the tee and more distance from the fairway will bring you new benefits. This club is both forgiving and fast, it’s a really lovely golf club.

Is The Titleist TSR3 Fairway Wood Worth It?

If you are an elite ball striker and you want the utmost precision in your game, then this is definitely worth it.

The TSR3 is a specialised club for highly skilled golfers. For this very small population of golfers, yes this fairway wood is worth it.

It has to be said at this point that this club isn’t for everyone. This is why the TSR2 is far more likely to be found in golf bags.

The TSR2 gives incredible performance with that added safety blanket of extra forgiveness.

If you are looking for another option from the tee or a fairly wood that you can trust under pressure then this is the club for you.

It is a club that will work best in the bags of people with a handicap of 14 right down to plus figures, as a general guide.

Conclusion

There is a reason that this club is frequently spotted in the bags of tour golfers, even those not supported by Titleist.

The TSR2 represents a real leap forward in the performance of fairway woods and is one that many golfers will be blown away by.

I absolutely love this club, and if I am completely honest with you, there is a good chance that I am going to buy one in the coming weeks. That’s how much I loved it.

Who Is The Titleist TSR3 Fairway Wood For?

titleist-TSR3-Fairway-Wood3

The Titleist TSR3 has been built for elite ball strikers.

It is for tour pros and highly skilled amateurs. If you fit into those categories then you will love this club.

For most golfers, the TSR2 will be a better fit but this club is unapologetically specialised.

Conclusion

Many people talk about how difficult a Formula 1 car is to drive.

Only the best drivers in the world can get the best performance out of those cars and the Titleist TSR3 is the golfing equivalent.

You don’t have to be quite an F1 driver, skills-wise, but you need to be bloody good.

This is an absolutely fantastic golf club and my only criticisms of it are because it is so specialised.

Like I have already said, the TSR3 is unapologetically hard to hit so don’t worry if it’s not for you, the TSR2 will happily be there to give you exactly what you need.
