Titleist TS2 Vs Callaway Big Bertha BB23 Driver Comparison Overview
When compared to the new Callaway Big Bertha BB23, the Titleist TS2 driver is devoid of a lot of bells and whistles.
And this is understandable since the TS2 driver came out in 2018 and the BB23 is the newest Big Bertha driver from Callaway.
We know the TS2 driver to be one of the most forgiving drivers in the TS line from Titleist. But without all the modern tech, can it really stand up against the Callaway Big Bertha BB23? Read on to find out.
Titleist TS2 Driver Overview
“The TS2 driver has a somewhat elongated rear head area and a nice symmetrical shape (from heel to toe) at address.
The glossy black finish on the crown lets you know you’re looking down at a Titleist driver. Behind the ball, the TS2 driver looks very forgiving and yet very clean. The face profile is fairly deep; but not as deep as the BB23 driver.
The TS2 features an adjustable hosel sleeve and a fixed rear weight. And that’s about as complicated as the tech that went into this driver gets. And while the shot dispersion is pretty tight, we were getting higher spin numbers from the TS2 compared to the BB23. This hindered total distance a bit. The TS2 also launched slightly lower than the Callaway Big Bertha BB23 driver.
Callaway Big Bertha BB23 Driver Overview
“The Callaway Big Bertha BB23 features a triaxial carbon crown, forward weighting, AI design forged titanium face and a jailbreak bracing system.”
The look behind the ball is definitely beefier than the TS2; but the BB23 feels lighter in the hands. The forged titanium face also made it very hard to lose ball speed on mis-hits. The average off-line divergence for the BB23 was 10.8 yards compared to 12.3 yards from the TS2.
The BB23’s spin numbers were significantly lower than those of the TS2; but the carry distance wasn’t much different. On average, the BB23 played only 4.9 yards longer than the much higher-spinning TS2.
“Dispersion and distance are very similar between these two drivers. Where the Callaway Big Bertha BB23 really takes the lead is in the forgiveness department.”
Even when you swing out of your shoes, it’s very easy to find the sweet spot and affect a straight shot or high-arcing draw. The Titleist TS2 is still a long, better-sounding, better-feeling, good-looking and worthwhile driver; but it would seem that all the tech that went into the BB23 really does make it the superior driver.
Titleist Tsi2 First Impressions
At first, the Titleist Tsi2 doesn’t look like much. But it’s a driver that has to be swung to be believed.
One of the things that really helps bump this driver up a few points is the adjustable hosel.
It is no secret in the golf world that the majority of tour pros that aren’t sponsored are using Titleist and it is the majority of the winners too.
The Tsi2 provides an excellent blend of forgiveness, feel and distance to take your game to the next level.
This customization of loft and lie angles adds instant value to this driver.
However, it’s the feel of this driver at impact that really steals the show.
The Tsi Family
The Titleist Tsi2 is the most ofrgiving driver in the Tsi fanily which also includes the Tsi1, Tsi3 and Tsi4.
The Tsi4 is for lower handicap players and features a 425cc head.
The Tsi3 would be best for mid to low handicap players and the Tsi1 is a lightweight version but produces considerable spin off the tee.
