Titleist T200 Vs. Ping i525 Irons Comparison & Review

It’s a good time to be alive if you’re a golfer. These days, there is such a priority on game-improvement that even high-end irons are viable for mid handicappers. Manufacturers are effectively blurring the lines between game-improvement and player’s performance clubs.

Cases in point: the Ping i525 and Titleist T200 irons. These are both unique premium iron sets that have something to offer both mid and low handicappers so let’s get into the details.

Titleist T200 Irons Overview

The Titleist T200 irons give the effortless distance that you would expect from a good set of game-improvement irons.

The T200 irons play long. The combination of the ultra-dense yet ultra-small D18 tungsten weights that have been placed in custom parts of the head for each club in the set and the polymer core that sits behind the sweet spot make for incredible distance.

How much you ask? Our testers were getting average distances of 188 yards with the 4 iron and 150 yards with the 5 iron. While the blades are short and the top lines are thin, the Titleist T200 irons have a forged L-shaped face insert to increase ball speed on low face, toe-oriented strikes.

While not just anyone can pick these irons up and start sending missiles down the fairway, they are incredibly forgiving if you’ve got an accurate swing.

Ping i525 Irons Overview

The Ping i525 irons take perimeter weighting to the next level.

There are tungsten weights in the shaft tip and the toe. Usually, designers are content to stick some weight in the toe and heel or maybe even the toe and the hosel. Ping took it a step further to produce a surprisingly forgiving set of player’s performance irons.

While the Ping i525 irons weren’t as forgiving as the T200’s overall, they were superior scoring irons up and down. From 150 yards out, they give you the trajectory you need to avoid hazards and set yourself up for eagle.

On short approaches, they launch high and allow you to bite down on fast greens. At address, they look clean and inviting with minimal offset and compact heads.

There is a surprising degree of forgiveness to both of these iron sets but after our testing, we certainly got the sense that the Ping i525’s would do more to actually lower a player’s handicap. They are scoring irons, pure and simple.
