Callaway Rogue ST Max Vs. Cobra LTDx Driver Comparison & Review

If you are looking for a new driver loaded with features that help you fine-tune performance, today’s comparison overview will be of particular interest to you. Callaway and Cobra have officially launched their new 2022 lineups with the new Rogue series and the LTDx series.

Both manufacturers really wanted to make an impression with these drivers. They are both congenial to a wide swath of players and loaded with cool features. But which features are the most effective? Find out in the following article.

Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Overview

The Callaway Rogue ST Max driver comes with an adjustable hosel and a whopping 26 gram tungsten weight cartridge located in the low-rear of the club head.

That’s the most weight of any driver in the new Rogue lineup by the way and you can bet that it helps with forgiveness and launch. The Rogue ST Max driver also features a new titanium body frame that is lightweight and makes room for all that tungsten.

Of course, like any good Callaway driver, the Rogue ST Max face was designed with the help of the Callaway supercomputer. Launch angles are incredible with this club and our high handicappers were getting instant distance increases with it.

It has a large footprint and slight draw bias so it helps if you tend to slice. While not very workable, the Rogue ST Max delivers a lot of height, distance and forgiveness.

Cobra LTDx Driver Overview

The Cobra LTDx features split mass weighting much like the Radspeed drivers of old.

That’s 15 grams in back and 19 grams in the front. This was a great balance of high MOI and low spin rates coming off the tee. As a result, more of our testers were actually driving longer with the Cobra LTDx than with the Rogue ST Max.

While our high handicap testers were able to increase drive distance with the Rogue, our low handicap testers marked significant increases in drive distance with the Cobra LTDx driver. The Cobra LTDx also has an adjustable hosel but even with the strongest loft, it didn’t launch as high as the Rogue ST Max.

The Cobra LTDx also has a nicer feeling, milled face. Really the only thing that the Rogue ST Max driver has on the Cobra LTDx is apex height. The features of the Cobra LTDx make for a much more effective club overall.

The Cobra LTDx driver features a cool combination of some of our favorite Cobra design elements as well as offering enhanced ball speeds.

Callaway Rogue ST Max  Driver – First Impressions

After our first swing with the Roge ST Max, we were very impressed by how solid and satisfying it felt.

Part of the solid feel comes from the internal bracing bars that are more laterally expansive to provide body support both horizontally and vertically. That, coupled with the titanium low-profile body bracing make for an exceptionally solid driver with a nice, comfortable and low center of gravity.

The Callaway Rogue ST Max also features an adjustable hosel for fine-tuning your shot shape.

The Rogue ST Family

The Rogue ST Max is the only one with a 26 gram tungsten weight. The Rogue ST Max D, Rogue ST Max LS and Rogue ST LS have either 23 gram or 20 gram weights. The Rogue ST LS was the most workable of the bunch and produced the lowest spin off the tee.

Cobra LTDx Driver – First Impressions

Needless to say, we were pretty excited to get our hands on this new Cobra driver.

And while it wasn’t quite what we were expecting, it still smacked of that same old Cobra innovation. We weren’t quite expecting the Cobra LTDx to be such a “game-improvement” driver. But the higher handicap testers in our group were pleasantly surprised. Plus, the Cobra LTDx isn’t the only release in this model…

The LTD Family

Included in this new line of LTD drivers is the LTDx LS and the LTDx Max. The LS has the most forward-positioned weight so as you can imagine, it has the lowest spin rates. Of course, that means detracting a bit from MOI so it is not quite as forgiving as the Cobra LTDx. But if max forgiveness is what you’re after then you should be looking at the LTDx Max. It produces the highest launch and has an extra rear-weight to increase forgiveness.

Who is the Cobra LTDx Driver for?

With the Cobra LTDx driver, Cobra went straight down the middle of the road – and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

That phrase usually has a bad connotation attached to it for mediocrity but that is not what we mean here. The Cobra LTDx does a good job of straddling the line between forgiveness and fast ball speed. It features a new H.O.T. face which separates the face into 15 different sections. The 15 different sections represent different thicknesses to accommodate for common mis-hit areas.

It also features a titanium chassis that helps increase stability in the mid section without significantly increasing weight.

For beginners and high handicappers though, the real star of the show is the rear tungsten weighting. While we have to admit, this is a common and rather basic feature in game-improvement drivers, it still makes a low-spin driver more accessible to higher handicap players.

Forgiveness: 94/100
