Taylormade Stealth 2 Vs Ping G430 Hybrid Comparison Overview

The original Stealth golf clubs rocked the sport by utilizing carbon fiber in a way that it’s never been used: for driver faces.

Now we have the Stealth 2 series which offers even more innovations.

The new Ping G430 clubs have also made their debut; but they don’t stray too far from the formula that has made the G series a fan favorite. Today, we will be offering our readers a comparison of the new Ping G430 hybrid and the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid Overview

“The Taylormade Stealth 2 is loaded with forgiveness features and slight tweaks of old features.”

While there is no carbon fiber in the face, the Stealth 2 hybrid has a redesigned inverted cone construction. More of the face flexes now so the Stealth 2 is actually a bit more forgiving than the original Stealth hybrid. You still get the Speed Pocket which gives you better distance on low-face strikes.

There is also the V-Steel sole panel that lowers the CG of the new Stealth 2 hybrid. Overall, our testers liked the turf interaction of the Stealth 2 hybrid. It cuts through thick turf significantly better than the Ping G430 hybrid does. The launch of the Stealth 2 hybrid is also nice and high. It’s available in 3H, 4H, 5H, 6H and 7H versions.

Ping G430 Hybrid Overview

“The Ping G430 hybrid offers a good mixture of forgiveness and distance.”

Our testers really liked the feel of this hybrid both off the tee and on the fairway. The face is made of C300 maraging steel which is incredibly resilient and responsive. Ping used their Facewrap design for the Ping G430 hybrid as well. This makes it so the upper and lower portions of the face feed into the sole and crown.

The Ping G430 hybrid also has a slightly curved face to promote faster ball speeds on low-face strikes and higher launch above face-center. Another cool thing that our testers found out was that the Ping G430 hybrid yielded surprisingly low side spin rates. However, they also noted that the turf interaction was a bit stifling.

“The Ping G430 hybrid is definitely better for more skilled players who want to work the ball and keep spin rates low. The Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid is an excellent club if you need more forgiveness so it’s better for high handicappers.”

Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid – First Impressions

“At first, we believed that the Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid was a pure GI club.”

But its workability and versatility quickly impressed us. It’s not the longest hybrid on the market; but it makes up for it with accuracy.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid Family

“The Stealth 2 Plus and Stealth 2 HD hybrids are also available for more specific needs.”

The HD version will help correct a slice while the Stealth 2 Plus is a better option for low handicap players seeking lower flight and spin.

Ping G430 Hybrid – First Impressions

“At first, we were a bit concerned about the sole design and leading edge of the Ping G430 hybrids.”

And as it turns out, we had a right to be concerned. The leading edge of these hybrids isn’t as smooth as you would hope for a hybrid. Turf interaction was a bit harsh; but they launch high enough for better players to attack the pin from pretty much any lie.

Ping G430 Hybrid Family

“You can use the Ping G430 hybrids to replace almost any iron or fairway wood in your bag.”

They range from #2 to #7 and they all have a D1 swing weight. The Ping G430 family of hybrids can even replace your shorter fairway woods and yield the same distance. All of the hybrids in the Ping G430 line come with the same features such as carbon composite crowns, C300 maraging steel faces and Facewrap technology.

Who is the Taylormade Stealth 2 Hybrid for?

“The Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid is sure to suit the needs of many kinds of players.”

We were a little disappointed with the spin rates and the high launch compared to the Stealth 2 Plus hybrid. But the standard Taylormade Stealth 2 hybrid definitely checks more boxes. While it isn’t as long as the “Plus” version, it is playable for more types of golfers.

It is truly a rescue club from the rough and it will allow skilled players to actually attack the pin from tight lies. It feels and sounds nice when you pure the ball and you don’t lose much ball speed when you mis-hit.
