When it comes to game improvement drivers, it’s hard to beat Taylormade.

So for this comparison overview, we didn’t try. Instead, we decided to pit the new Taylormade Stealth 2 driver against the tried and true Taylormade SIM2 driver.

We wanted to see which driver was more forgiving and which was the better overall game improvement wood. We took to the driving range to compare these two Taylormade drivers. Take a look at what we found.

Taylormade SIM2 Driver Overview

“The SIM2 driver has the inertia generator that we still see in modern Taylormade drivers.”

This feature allows for more mass to be placed in the back of the head. In the case of the SIM2, this comes in the form of a 16 gram steel weight that drastically increases MOI. When we tested the SIM2, our testers noted very little twisting on off-center strikes thanks to the rear weight. There is also a sole weight to help lower the CG.

The SIM2 also features the Speed Pocket which maintains ball speed on shots made near the bottom of the face. Our testers were averaging drives of 228.3 yards after three swings with the Taylormade SIM2 driver. Not too bad but nothing to write home about either.

The real benefit of this driver is how forgiving it is. Shots made low on the face were flying almost as far as perfect strikes. Lateral misses were punished a bit however.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Driver Overview

“The Taylormade Stealth 2 features a carbon fiber face construction and carbon fiber in the crown.”

The rear weight has also been beefed up to 25 pounds and changed to tungsten. The Taylormade Stealth 2 driver also features inverted cone technology in the face. And the Speed Pocket is still here too.

All of these features put together makes for an incredibly forgiving driver. The Taylormade Stealth 2 evenplays longer. The average drive distance for our testers after 3 swings with the Taylormade Stealth 2 was 234.7 yards.

Sim 2 Driver – First Impressions

The first thing you notice about this driver is the large and the attractive, colorful design with advanced features popping out of every crevice in the driver.

The club is surprisingly light and the sweet spot is so big, you cant imagine hitting anything but a straight shot.

If slices are a problem for you in your game, the Max D version is almost guaranteed to iron that out of your game and if you want to opt for a more playable driver with extra distance the Sim is perfect. For us the Sim Max was a happy in between to hit.

The ultra thin steel face is speed injected for maximum distance and the Sim 2 is among the longest drivers in the game right now, but the thru slot speed pocket is also amazing at increasing the size of the sweet spot when hit low on the face.

The forged ring construction and carbon fiber sole delivers some of the fastest swing speeds in the game today.

It also has the inertia generator for higher MOI and split mass weighting, including a 16g steel weight and the back of the club for an incredible, long accurate and forgiving driver, used by some the world’s best players including Dustin Johnson.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Driver – First Impressions

“The new Stealth 2 drivers have a ton of shelf appeal, three version to choose from and plenty of Carbon in the face, permieter, sole and crown.

The carbon face has 60 sheets of the ultra strong material and it is covered in a glossy finish which makes it a little less vibrant than the original Stealth.

Inside the face is the inverted cone technology, usually reserved for Taylormade irons, which adds forgiveness on off center hits.

Forgiveness, accuracy and dispersion has been the focus of the Taylormade drivers this year. The original Stealth was great for tour players who had it dialed in but it was a little bit wayward for regular golfers.

The Stealth 2 is a little bit erratic still and it’s not as long as the Callaway Paradym or Cobra Aerojet for 2023 either.

That being said, these drivers look great in the bag and there are 3 variations to choose from.

If these drivers can help you to keep the ball on the fairway then they will be a boon for any golfer, its important to get a fitting to see what works best for your game.

The inject molded Carbon reinforced ring reduces weights which is redistributed with an inertia generating tungsten weight at the back of the club . This leads to higher MOI and increased distance.

The Taylormade acoustics team has also been busy throughout the year ensuring the sound and feel are on point with the new drivers and they do feel more powerful on impact.

When you catch the drivers flush, they fly for miles, especially the plus model, but we found off-center hit to be a little bit left and right in testing.

Perhaps if we had more time to test we could have dialed them in better as there is plenty of adjustable. The + has a sliding 15g weight and the loft can be increased or decreased by 2 degrees on each club alongside the lie angle.

The top line is also a little bit straighter at the behest of tour pro, Colin Morikawa.
