Taylormade Stealth Vs. Taylormade M6 Driver Comparison Overview

We continue our battery of tests for the new Taylormade Stealth driver by putting it up against one of it’s descendants. Like the Taylormade Stealth driver, the M6 features an asymmetric sole they have dubbed the “Inertia Generator.”

Both the M6 and the Taylormade Stealth drivers are supposed to deliver straighter, longer shots for players of every skill level. But which one outshined the other in this test? Find out in the following comparison overview.

Taylormade Stealth Driver Overview

The Taylormade Stealth driver features carbon fiber where we have never seen it before.

We have seen carbon fiber in plenty of woods in the past. Even the M6 has a carbon fiber sole to help keep weight down. But the Taylormade Stealth has a carbon fiber face topped with a layer of polyurethane to enhance sound and feel.

The inertia generator also houses a rear weight so MOI with this club was very high. It was forgiving, produced straight shots, and this is one of the sexiest-looking drivers currently on the market. The Taylormade Stealth also generates more distance than the M6 by helping to increase swing speed.

While this effect won’t be typical of everyone who plays the Taylormade Stealth driver, it will at least play as long as the M6.

Taylormade M6 Driver Overview

The M6 features the Twist Face technology that helps correct errant strikes.

The M6 still holds a lot of value for high to mid handicap players. It produces straight shots off the tee and the 46 grams of rear weight will certainly help with distance on dead-center shots. Our only real gripe is that it isn’t very workable – however that shouldn’t be a problem for beginners.

Even with the carbon sole though, the M6 couldn’t hold a candle to the Taylormade Stealth in terms of weight and feel. The M6 just has a clumsier, less controllable feel than the Taylormade Stealth driver. It takes some time to get used to while the Taylormade Stealth driver’s learning curve is nearly flat.

For players looking for an instant improvement in distance, ball speed and club head speed, you gotta try the Taylormade Stealth driver. It’s light but still puts substantial force behind all of your swings. Even though it isn’t much more workable than the Taylormade M6, we think it will do more to improve the drives of players of all skill levels.

Taylormade M6 First Impressions

The Taylormade M6 certainly looks more intimidating than the M4at first glance but once you pick it up you can feel how light and wieldy it truly is.

The Taylormade M6 features a carbon sole to help offset the additional 46 grams of weight placed in the back of the head. It was very comfortable to swing and we got an instant boost in distance.

The M Family

The M6 is joined by, of course, the M4 and the M2. By comparison, the M2 is a bit lighter than the M6 but ultimately plays shorter.

Taylormade Stealth Driver – First Impressions

The Taylormade Stealth driver was impressive in almost every respect but we were really interested in testing our first carbon-faced driver.

For the most part, we weren’t disappointed. While it became clear fairly early on that the Taylormade Stealth driver was more for mid to low handicap players, it was awesome to experience something so fresh, new and most importantly, effective.

As you may expect from a Taylormade driver, the Taylormade Stealth features the famed speed pocket and a redesigned inertia generator that was upping the swing speeds of even our higher handicap testers (by 2-3 MPH).

The Stealth Family

The Stealth family includes the Stealth Plus and the Stealth HD drivers. The Stealth Plus is the only one in the line that features a sliding rear weight while the Stealth HD is the only one with internal draw bias.

Who is the Taylormade M6 for?

The Taylormade M6 would be a great choice for high to mid handicappers.

You get a good amount of distance and forgiveness help with the Taylormade M6 driver. The twist face does make it difficult to work. So just like with the M4 driver, the M6 is not an ideal choice for more seasoned players.

We also really like how the weight pulls your swing down ever so slightly to produce high launch. The extreme rear weight also helps distribute energy from your swing all over the face so you still get pretty impressive ball speed when you miss the sweet spot.
