Taylormade Stealth Vs. Callaway Mavrik Driver Comparison Overview

Testing the new Taylormade Stealth driver has been a pleasure. Mainly because it offers something so new that we are immediately interested in seeing how well it performs against other drivers. Many comparisons can get hum-drum because so many drivers are essentially the same.

But the Taylormade Stealth driver represents something so new that more often than not, we find ourselves chomping at the bit to get out on the range with it. Today, we are sharing our experience when we tested the Taylormade Stealth against the Callaway Mavrik.

Callaway Mavrik Driver Overview

The Callaway Mavrik represented one of the lightest and fastest drivers in it’s time.

The combination of a special aerodynamic head design and a carbon crown was really impactful when the Mavrik’s first came out. Indeed, when we played the Mavrik again, we were impressed with the club head speed and ball speed it produced.

The titanium face also helps keep weight down. The Mavrik was producing an average of 216 yards for our testers who run the gamut from 94 MPH and 106 MPH swing speeds. This is still certainly impressive for a driver in this class.

Forgiveness was certainly lacking though. That average distance would have been bumped up considerably if the sweet spot were easier to nail.

Taylormade Stealth Driver Overview

The Taylormade Stealth drivers take speed to a new level.

The first thing to mention is that the Taylormade Stealth driver helped up the swing speed of all the testers in our party. The carbon fiber face and aerodynamic Inertia Generator work in tandem to make it easy to speed through the air on your downswing.

This amounted to an average drive distance of 220 yards for our testers. That being said, the Taylormade Stealth driver wasn’t much more forgiving than the Mavrik. Most of the increased distance can be attributed to faster swing speeds as opposed to better forgiveness.

It should be noted that the Taylormade Stealth driver has a neutral flight bias as opposed to the slight draw of the Mavrik driver. More often than not, the straighter shots of the Stealth meant longer overall drives.

While the difference in distance may seem negligible, you really have to play and feel the Taylormade Stealth driver to see what is truly remarkable about it. It has an amazing feel at impact and is almost effortless to swing.

The Taylormade Stealth is one of the most unique and impressive drivers of 2022 so far.

Mavrik Driver – First Impressions

Once you get passed the bright colors and attractive design, you can immediately see how light and wieldy the Mavrik drivers really are.

The face on the club is huge and it gives you the confidence you need to let the driver rip, even on the first tee with a crowd gathered to watch. The face is also ultra thin, ultra light special steel which sends the ball into orbit on contact.

Two internal jailbreak bars on under side of the club hold everything together by connecting the sole with the crown and adding extra stability, feel, consistency and distance. The shape of the driver is also aerodynamic and like everything with the clubs, focused on more swing speed.

The Different Mavrik Driver Versions

The Mavrik is for your average player or mid handicapper, medium levels of forgiveness, and mid spin. This one has a standard launch angle too.

The Mavrik max is similar with more forgiveness and a higher ball flight for higher handicappers

The Mavrik Pro has a 450cc head, less forgiveness and spin and higher emphasis on distance for low handicappers and fast swingers.

Taylormade Stealth Driver – First Impressions

The Taylormade Stealth driver was impressive in almost every respect but we were really interested in testing our first carbon-faced driver.

For the most part, we weren’t disappointed. While it became clear fairly early on that the Taylormade Stealth driver was more for mid to low handicap players, it was awesome to experience something so fresh, new and most importantly, effective.

As you may expect from a Taylormade driver, the Taylormade Stealth features the famed speed pocket and a redesigned inertia generator that was upping the swing speeds of even our higher handicap testers (by 2-3 MPH).

The Stealth Family

The Stealth family includes the Stealth Plus and the Stealth HD drivers. The Stealth Plus is the only one in the line that features a sliding rear weight while the Stealth HD is the only one with internal draw bias.
