Taylormade M6 Vs. Callaway Big Bertha Driver Comparison Overview

Staying on the fairway from the tee is something that a lot of new golf players struggle with.

To help beginners overcome this stumbling block. Many golf ball manufacturers have come up with technologies that actually helps produce straighter shots.

From our years of testing, we know that some of these technologies are really more of a gimmick but that some are on the up and up.

The Taylormade M6 and the Big Bertha drivers promise straighter shots but do they live up to the promise? Are they all gimmick? Find out in the following article.

Taylormade M6 Driver Overview

The Taylormade M6 uses “Twist Face” technology which is really just an edgy marketing phrase that means a slight curvature of the face.

However annoying the nomenclature may be, the Twist Face technology really does work. Every tester in our party – from the highly skilled to intermediate player – had almost no trouble staying on the fairway with this driver.

It was also producing pretty decent distance. On average our testers were getting 267 yards from the Taylormade M6. For faster swing speed players, the Taylormade M6 will not play as long as the previous M2 but the M6 is a great choice for newbies overall.

Spin rates are in the midrange which is something we would have liked to see minimized but other than that, we must say that the Taylormade M6 lives up to the annoying marketing.

Callaway Big Bertha Driver Overview

Right off the bat, let us say that if the M6 is not gimmicky, then the Big Bertha is even less gimmicky.

Callaway took a very practical and non-grandiose approach to straightening out players’ shots: they simply added internal draw bias weighting in the head. Simple but genius! Our testers were landing on the fairway with no problem when they used the Big Bertha.

There is also a low and forward oriented CG with this driver which also helped produce more distance than the Taylormade M6 driver. Our testers were getting 274 yards on average with the Big Bertha which had a lot to do with the forward CG – this helps eliminate spin off the tee.

The Callaway Big Bertha produces less spin and yields shots that are at least as straight as the Taylormade M6 driver. While neither of these drivers are too gimmicky to provide any substance, we were more impressed with the distance of the Big Bertha.

The Taylormade M6 does a little more of everything that the M4 driver does.

In 20 Words or Less

If straighter, longer shots are what you’re after then you would do quite well with the Callaway Big  Bertha B21.

Taylormade M6 First Impressions

The Taylormade M6 certainly looks more intimidating than the M4at first glance but once you pick it up you can feel how light and wieldy it truly is.

The Taylormade M6 features a carbon sole to help offset the additional 46 grams of weight placed in the back of the head. It was very comfortable to swing and we got an instant boost in distance.

The M Family

The M6 is joined by, of course, the M4 and the M2. By comparison, the M2 is a bit lighter than the M6 but ultimately plays shorter.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 First Impressions

At first glance, the Big Bertha B21 will look inviting to high handicappers thanks to it’s oversized head.

The Driver is absolutely massive and it has a huge sweet spot which stretches in every direction on the drivers ultra thin steel face.

The weighting is low and deep in the head which leads to a low CG and high MOI, meaning long, high and straight shots.

The driver has all the stability you would expect from a Callaway too with it’s internal jailbreak bars.

The driver has considerably offset too, so if you suffer from a slice, this one is going to be an excellent choice.

It’s pretty easy to start upping your drive distance with the first few swings of the Big Bertha B21 due to it’s massive head and deep weighting.

This can be considered a super game improvement driver that will help you take your game to the next level.

Big Bertha Family

The Big Bertha rides solo but their are plenty of other options from Callaway for players looking for a different type of driver like the Mavrik and Epic Ranges.

Who is the Taylormade M6 for?

The Taylormade M6 would be a great choice for high to mid handicappers.

You get a good amount of distance and forgiveness help with the Taylormade M6 driver. The twist face does make it difficult to work. So just like with the M4 driver, the M6 is not an ideal choice for more seasoned players.

We also really like how the weight pulls your swing down ever so slightly to produce high launch. The extreme rear weight also helps distribute energy from your swing all over the face so you still get pretty impressive ball speed when you miss the sweet spot.
