Taylormade SIM2 Vs. Taylormade M6 Driver Comparison Overview
You love to see it: a battle between the generations. Who will win? The predecessor or the incumbent? Many people feel that the Taylormade SIM2 driver is the spiritual successor to the former Taylormade M6 driver and we are inclined to degree.
For us though, that conclusion begged an even bigger question: which one is actually better? Does newer mean higher quality in this case? Find out in the following comparison overview.
Taylormade SIM2 Driver Overview
The Taylormade SIM2 takes the features of the Taylormade M6 to the next level so to speak.
First of all, instead of just a carbon crown, the Taylormade SIM2 features a carbon crown and sole. This brings the weight down considerably. However, the SIM2 actually has a heftier swing weight (D5) than the Taylormade M6 due to the 16 gram rear weight and a weighted sole.
The rear weight does improve forgiveness some but if you are having trouble with crooked shots, the curvature of the face will help you out more. If you are still having trouble with forgiveness though we would recommend taking a look at the SIM2 Max and the SIM2 Max D drivers.
They both sport large face profiles so new players can find the sweet spot easier. Getting back to the standard SIM2 though, Taylormade actually included the Speed Pocket to help with the distance that was famously lacking in the Taylormade M6 driver.
Taylormade M6 Driver Overview
The Taylormade M6 may have been the forerunner for the SIM2 drivers but the torch has been officially passed.
It just feels like Taylormade held back with the Taylormade M6 and then unleashed with the SIM2. The Taylormade M6 only has a carbon crown but it does have a heftier 46 gram rear weight for extreme forgiveness. The downside is that the Taylormade M6 produces significantly more side spin than the SIM2 driver.
This hurts in the distance department. The SIM2 produced average distances of 271 yards while the Taylormade M6 was squeaking out averages of 264 yards. Not a huge disparity but the SIM2 also felt more solid and stable on impact than the Taylormade M6.
In this case at least, newer does indeed mean better. The SIM2 was producing longer drives, lower spin rates and even straighter shots. While low handicappers will want to stay away from both these drivers, mid to high handicappers will be better off with the Taylormade SIM2 driver.

The Taylormade M6 does a little more of everything that the M4 driver does.
Sim 2 Driver – First Impressions
The first thing you notice about this driver is the large and the attractive, colorful design with advanced features popping out of every crevice in the driver.
The club is surprisingly light and the sweet spot is so big, you cant imagine hitting anything but a straight shot.
If slices are a problem for you in your game, the Max D version is almost guaranteed to iron that out of your game and if you want to opt for a more playable driver with extra distance the Sim is perfect. For us the Sim Max was a happy in between to hit.
The ultra thin steel face is speed injected for maximum distance and the Sim 2 is among the longest drivers in the game right now, but the thru slot speed pocket is also amazing at increasing the size of the sweet spot when hit low on the face.
The forged ring construction and carbon fiber sole delivers some of the fastest swing speeds in the game today.
It also has the inertia generator for higher MOI and split mass weighting, including a 16g steel weight and the back of the club for an incredible, long accurate and forgiving driver, used by some the world’s best players including Dustin Johnson.

The Taylormade M6 certainly looks more intimidating than the M4at first glance but once you pick it up you can feel how light and wieldy it truly is.
The Taylormade M6 features a carbon sole to help offset the additional 46 grams of weight placed in the back of the head. It was very comfortable to swing and we got an instant boost in distance.

The M6 is joined by, of course, the M4 and the M2. By comparison, the M2 is a bit lighter than the M6 but ultimately plays shorter.

Who is the Taylormade M6 for?
The Taylormade M6 would be a great choice for high to mid handicappers.
You get a good amount of distance and forgiveness help with the Taylormade M6 driver. The twist face does make it difficult to work. So just like with the M4 driver, the M6 is not an ideal choice for more seasoned players.
We also really like how the weight pulls your swing down ever so slightly to produce high launch. The extreme rear weight also helps distribute energy from your swing all over the face so you still get pretty impressive ball speed when you miss the sweet spot.
