Ping G430 Vs Ping G425 Driver Comparison Overview

The newest iteration of the Ping G430 driver sees the company going after more distance.

That’s quite a tall order when you consider that the G series of drivers has been hailed by some golfers as the longest and most forgiving drivers on the market.

We were excited to get our hands on the new Ping G430 but we had to choose its comparison control very carefully. We couldn’t think of a better control than the fabled Ping G425 driver. The Ping G430 and the Ping G425 drivers actually have a lot of similarities; but is there enough of an upgrade to justify buying the Ping G430? Let’s find out.

Ping G430 Driver Overview

“For this specific comparison, we tested the Ping G430 Max.”

It should be noted that the new Ping G430 comes in a low spin version (LST) and a straight flight option (SFT). The Ping G430 Max features a 25-gram moving weight that can be set into a neutral, draw or fade position.

The Ping G430 Max also features a forged titanium face that plays incredibly hot. This is a 460cc driver that is available in 9, 10.5 and 12 degree loft versions. The Ping G430 Max is indeed forgiving. It has a large footprint and a rounded head design that will surely inspire confidence at point of address.

The spin rates were a little higher than we usually like; but the lateral forgiveness was phenomenal. Even on mis-hits, we were getting ball speeds similar to dead-on strikes.

Ping G425 Driver Overview

“The Ping G425 features the same type of forged titanium face as the Ping G430 Max.”

There is also a moving weight that shifts CG – only, the Ping G425’s shifting weight is 26 grams. It’s not an incredible difference and the Ping G425 makes up for the added weight by using a thin titanium crown and internal ribbing structure.

Like the Ping G430, the Ping G425 plays incredibly hot off the face. The Ping G430 Max was slightly more forgiving on errant strikes; but our testers were actually getting just a few yards out of the Ping G425.

“At the end of the day, these two drivers are probably too similar. While the Ping G430 is a bit more forgiving, the Ping G425 plays a bit longer. We would say the Ping G430 Max is only worth the upgrade if you really need to squeeze as much forgiveness as you can from your driver.”

Ping G430 Driver – First Impressions

“The Ping G430 drivers have a noticeably different design than previous Ping G drivers.”

The face has a more shallow profile yet the crown and sole have a more rounded design. Overall the Ping G430 drivers look really unique. They also have the signature “ping” sound at impact which is really satisfying and lets you know when you’ve struck the ball perfectly.

We were also impressed that all three drivers in the new line come with movable weights. This will help a wide array of players who are struggling against a draw or a fade. It’ll also help you put more power behind the area of the face that you tend to make contact with.

The adjustable loft sleeve will also help you dial these drivers in during fittings. Ping did a good job of upping the adjustability element of the new Ping G430 so that they appeal to a wider array of players. Unless you have a handicap in the 0-5 range, the new Ping G430 driver can benefit your long game in one way or another.

The Ping G430 Family

If you are a better player looking to squeeze more yards out of your drive with muted spin, the Ping G430 LST is definitely the driver for you. If you are a high handicapper, go with the Ping G430 Max. If you are struggling with accuracy off the tee, the Ping G430 SFT would benefit you most.

The Club is pretty understated in it’s design, it’s all black with some white logo writing and you can immediately notice the adjustable weighting in the back that can iron out any inherent flaws in your swing.

The weight on the back is tungsten and weighs 26g, the ultra light internal dragon fly crown allows for more weight in the back and face which is a forged insert, delivering incredible ball speed and accuracy.

The head is packing huge MOI of over 10,000, and it incorprates and ultralight hosel insert and internal ribbing for unrivalled feel, forgiveness and competitive distance.

The club comes in three formats:

The max will suit mid to high handicappers

The LST has a smaller 445cc head for the consistent mid to low to pro players

The SFT is the most forgiving of the drivers and best for beginners who tend to slice

Overall the G425 has excellent feel and consistent and rightfully takes its place as one of the top premium drivers on the market right now.

Who is the Ping G430 Driver for?

“With three unique models, the Ping G430 drivers will appeal to a wide variety of players.”

It would seem that the overarching goal for these drivers was to make them viable for all skill levels. For the most part, Ping succeeded at this. The only type of player that we can imagine that wouldn’t benefit from these drivers are scratch players. The Ping G430 drivers launch high and don’t allow for a whole lot of workability.

So if you are a really good player, you’re better off looking elsewhere for a new driver. That being said, the Ping G430 drivers are ideal for both mid and high handicappers looking for a good mixture of forgiveness and accuracy.

We love the new forged face design because it will help virtually any kind of player achieve better ball speeds. The Ping G430 drivers will be especially beneficial to players who need more lateral forgiveness from their driver.
