Cobra Speedzone Vs. Cobra LTDx Driver Comparison & Review

The Cobra Speedzone and the new Cobra LTDx driver share a lot of features in common which, is typical of drivers from the same manufacturer. As you could imagine, in terms of performance, there is a lot of overlap.

So why should you consider the newer and more expensive Cobra LTDx driver over the more affordable Cobra Speedzone driver? The answer is, maybe you shouldn’t. We compare the merits and drawbacks of both drivers for you in the following overview.

Cobra Speedzone Driver Overview

Like the Cobra LTDx, the Cobra Speedzone driver features a titanium chassis, carbon fiber crown and a CNC milled face.

Unlike the Cobra LTDx driver though, the Speedzone driver features an adjustable weight that can be placed in the front or the back of the head. So whether you want to emphasize a higher launch or lower ball spin, the Cobra LTDx will accommodate.

The Cobra Speedzone was also built like a friggin’ race car. The leading edges of the face were milled down to increase aerodynamics and create sleek lines. The Speedzone plays fast and has a great feel at impact.

The Speedzone also emphasizes perimeter weight to increase stability on the downswing and increase forgiveness so at the end of the day, it does a little bit of everything.

Cobra LTDx Driver Overview

The new Cobra LTDx driver continues in the same vein as the Speedzone driver in the sense that it does a bit of everything.

However, the Cobra LTDx differentiates itself by including a fixed rear and fixed front weight to offer a natural balance of forgiveness, high launch and low spin. So which one was longer you ask? The new Cobra LTDx was actually longer.

At the range our fast swing speed (96MPH and above) testers were achieving an average max drive distance of 233 yards as opposed to 228 yards from the Speedzone driver. The Cobra LTDx was also more workable thanks to a new face design that varies thickness in 15 different zones.

Our better testers were able to use this feature to great effect – placing the ball on the fairway almost at will.

Club head speeds were better with the Speedzone driver; but in almost every other department (forgiveness, distance, accuracy) the Cobra LTDx narrowly edged it out. While the Cobra LTDx may lack versatility without an interchangeable weight, it definitely deserves your consideration in 2022.

Cobra LTDx Driver – First Impressions

Needless to say, we were pretty excited to get our hands on this new Cobra driver.

And while it wasn’t quite what we were expecting, it still smacked of that same old Cobra innovation. We weren’t quite expecting the Cobra LTDx to be such a “game-improvement” driver. But the higher handicap testers in our group were pleasantly surprised. Plus, the Cobra LTDx isn’t the only release in this model…

The LTD Family

Included in this new line of LTD drivers is the LTDx LS and the LTDx Max. The LS has the most forward-positioned weight so as you can imagine, it has the lowest spin rates. Of course, that means detracting a bit from MOI so it is not quite as forgiving as the Cobra LTDx. But if max forgiveness is what you’re after then you should be looking at the LTDx Max. It produces the highest launch and has an extra rear-weight to increase forgiveness.

Speedzone Driver – First Impressions

“The Cobra Speedzone doesn’t look like much at first, but it will quickly win you over with it’s superior feel and forgiveness.”

On the other end of the spectrum is the Cobra Speedzone which feels light in the hands as soon as you pick it up. We were really impressed from the feel and feedback of this driver.

It provides good forgiveness with perimeter weighting inside the head at the left and right corners of the face and at the rear of the head.

The Speedzone Family

Cobra also makes the Speedzone Xtreme driver which is more forgiving with an oversized face profile.

Who is the Cobra LTDx Driver for?

With the Cobra LTDx driver, Cobra went straight down the middle of the road – and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

That phrase usually has a bad connotation attached to it for mediocrity but that is not what we mean here. The Cobra LTDx does a good job of straddling the line between forgiveness and fast ball speed. It features a new H.O.T. face which separates the face into 15 different sections. The 15 different sections represent different thicknesses to accommodate for common mis-hit areas.

It also features a titanium chassis that helps increase stability in the mid section without significantly increasing weight.

For beginners and high handicappers though, the real star of the show is the rear tungsten weighting. While we have to admit, this is a common and rather basic feature in game-improvement drivers, it still makes a low-spin driver more accessible to higher handicap players.

Who Are The Speedzone Drivers For

The Cobra Speedzone are more for low handicap players with faster swing speeds.

You won’t get much in the way of distance from the Cobra Speedzone driver if you don’t have a good swing speed.

That being said, the Speedzone driver is accurate, generates great ball speed away from the sweet spot and feels amazing at impact

There’s also an adjustable weight that you can move to alter from forward CG to rear CG.

Cobra Speedzone Xtreme Driver

The Cobra Speeedzone Xtreme is a model that is more forgiving and consistent for high handicappers and players who generally struggle off the tee.
