Cobra Darkspeed Vs Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood

Cobra Darkspeed Vs Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood

Today we test the latest Cobra fairway against what some consider the best Cobra fairway wood.

Cobra Darkspeed Fairway Wood Overview

Cobra Darkspeed Fairway Wood

“The Cobra Darkspeed features a carbon crown, mid-back weight and HOT face design.”

The Cobra Darkspeed also has a fairly large footprint – at least, larger than the Aerojet. So it looks more forgiving overall.

It also lacks the prominent blue/silver coloration of the Aerojet in favor of a nearly all-black design which I like.

Performance was very similar to the Aerojet but the Cobra Darkspeed did launch a bit higher and played an average of 4.3 degrees longer.

The Cobra Darkspeed FW retails for $330.

Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood Overview

“The Aerojet features forward weighting, adjustable hosel and a carbon fiber crown.”

It looks a bit more compact  and the blue/silver/black color scheme is a bit more attention-grabbing.

I liked the speed and light weight of the Aerojet fairway wood; but it didn’t equate to better distance because it produced higher spin rates. The Aerojet FW sells for $250.

“The Cobra Darkspeed fairway wood is likely better for high handicappers; but the Aerojet is a more affordable, and still solid GI fairway wood.”

“The standard Cobra Aerojet Fairway wood is a unique combination of workability and forgiveness with a naturally moderate launch.”

Cobra Darkspeed Fairway Wood – First Impressions

Cobra Darkspeed Fairway Wood2

“I really liked the looks of this fairway wood right away.”

The black/red color scheme, the matte carbon fiber paneling and even the font they used for the “Cobra Dark Speed” lettering on the sole looks really cool.

The looks of this fairway just makes you want to start taking swings.

And any club that somehow encourages you to practice more (even if it’s just via aesthetic appeal) is a valuable one.

Once I did start taking swings, I was impressed with how light it felt in my backswing and how fast it was through transition.

And it wasn’t just fast in my hands. The Cobra Darkspeed Max fairway wood also produced really fast ball speeds as well thanks to the Ai-Designed HOT face architecture.

You can adjust the weight positions as you need but I was good with the 15g weight in the back and the 3g weight in the heel.

I don’t need a ton of draw bias as I have already learned to produce a natural draw; but it’s nice to know that the option is available.

Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood – First Impressions

“There is nothing about the design of the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods that really blew us away.”

It has a clean look behind the ball, which is certainly a good thing. But even on paper, there isn’t enough that’s new about the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods compared to their past woods that really got the blood pumping for us.

Still, it is surprisingly workable and is a good fairway wood for attacking the pin on long par 4’s and 5’s.

The Cobra Aerojet Fairway Family

“If you’re looking for the most forgiveness, the Cobra Aerojet Max is a good choice.”

Better players will naturally gravitate to the exceptionally low-spinning Cobra Aerojet LS fairway woods. The LS version also launches low so players with faster swing speeds will definitely find it to be the best distance wood of the three new versions.

Who is the Cobra Darkspeed Fairway Wood for?

Cobra Darkspeed Fairway Wood3

“The Cobra Darkspeed Max fairway wood is the most forgiving in the Darkspeed series.”

Naturally, it will appeal more to high handicappers. But more specifically, I would say this fairway is most suitable for high handicappers who are struggling to correct a slice.

The Cobra Darkspeed Max fairway wood has massive slice-stopping potential if you need it.

This is also an excellent choice if you want to start increasing your swing speed. In general, I would recommend getting fitted for the Cobra Darkspeed fairway wood if you’re in the 18-25 handicap range.

The Cobra Darkspeed Max fairway wood is currently retailing for $330.

Who is the Cobra Aerojet Fairway Wood for?

“At the end of the day, mid handicappers would probably get the best use out of this fairway wood.”

At least, that was the case for our testers. Our high handicap testers really liked the forgiveness of these fairway woods; but they weren’t able to work them as masterfully as some of our better testers. The good thing about the Cobra Aerojet Fairway woods is that they yield consistent distance almost regardless of your swing speed.

Again though, mid handicappers will love the controllable spin and launch of these woods.
