The first thing to notice about these Irons is the striking looks. The clubs have a cavity back design with more thickness towards the bottom of the design for more ball speed.
In the clubs we have a low Center of Gravity, a wide sole for a bigger sweet spot, forgiveness and echo camping technology for a nice sound even on Mishits.
The Speed Bridge, Speed Pocket and and ultra thin face all account for club head transferring into balls speed for maximum distance, accuracy and tons of forgiveness.
The Sim Max Irons have recently been upgraded to the Sim2 family for 2021.

The Callaway Apex DCB are premium quality irons with a lot more forgiveness built in for high handicappers, they are also thich for distance.
The Sim 2 are the latest in game improvement irons from Taylormade and they are long, forgiving and beautiful clubs to hit.

Callaway Apex DCB First Impressions
We knew that the Callaway Apex DCB irons targeted mid to high handicappers but they don’t feel like it.
Right from the gate, we were blown away with the feel of these irons. The feel of the forged 1025 carbon steel is amazing. It allows for a solid feel at contact with feedback you would expect from tour-grade irons.
Assisting with the soft feel of these irons is the layer of urethane microspheres included in the head. We also liked that the sole had a substantial footprint.
This will play well with high handicappers at it just looks more comforting at point of address.
The Callaway Apex DCB irons are available with graphite UST Mamiya Recoil Dart shafts and steel True Temper Elevate ETS 85 shafts.
The graphite shafts will certainly be more beneficial for high handicap players so those were the ones we tested.
The 4 and 5 irons are what we tested first and we were impressed with the distance and launch. The set starts with a 4 iron at a considerable 20 degrees of loft then jumps up to 23 degrees in the 5 iron.
The Callaway Apex DCB irons certainly impressed with their feel, distance and launch.

Taylormade Sim 2 Max Irons

Sim 2 Irons – First Impressions
Immediately noticeable on these irons is that they look pretty similar to the Sim Max irons but the Cap Back technology does stand out as being more solid.
We weren’t expected much difference in performance either and turned out to be true as well, the Sim 2 Max are slightly longer and lower launching than their predecessor which shows an incremental improvement but nothing overly major to write home about.
The echo dampener and cap back does make these irons feel a good bit smoother in the shorter irons and you can really get a good command of the ball with the forged feeling face.
Thru slot and ICT technology ensure the sweet spot is large and playable and that is another feature that we enjoyed about these clubs.
Overall the clubs do mark an improvement over the Sim Max in terms of distance, feel and control and we recommend giving these clubs a shot before committing to a purchase, because the Sim Max are still competitive and may be available for a keener price.

The Callaway Mavrik are packing a ton of technology that give the irons a perfect blend of feel, distance and accuracy for mid handicappers who want consistency in their game.
The P790 are clubs that will suit mid or low handicap golfers with the clean, compact head while the speed foam offers a smooth feel and more forgiveness than typical players irons.

They have 360 Face Cup technology which allows for some flex in the iron face on impact resulting in maximum ball speed and distance.
The clubs have a lot of loft, allowing you to get the ball in the air while Tungsten Weighting, keeps the center of gravity low in these irons and the Urethane Microspheres reduce vibrations on off center hits.
These are excellent Game Improvement irons from 2020 that come at an affordable price.

Taylormade P790 Irons

Taylormade P790 – First Impressions
The first thing to notice about the P790 irons is the compact, forged heads that come in a shape and style that will suit the better players.
Despite the players feel of the irons, they also come packed with technology that will add distance and forgiveness like the Thru Slot speed pocket, speed foam and inverted cone technology which allows more flex on impact.
The forged irons are actually a hollow construction, filled with speed foam which allows much greater distances to be achieved than the original P790’s and the tungsten weighting keeps the CG low for an easy launch for an iron of this type.
The original P790 irons, released in 2017, were definitely for the players but with the remodelling in 2019, these can also be used for mid handicappers looking to test the waters of players irons.
All in all, definitely not for the high handicappers.

Anybody from High to Low handicappers will be able to get good distance, accuracy and even workability from these irons that are also available for a bit less on the market as well nowadays.

You can feel the power in these irons from the moment you pick them up. The clubs are solid, the lofts are strong and there is no question that these are built to make the ball fly.
What Callaway tried with the Rogue irons clearly worked as they have kept so many of their features in the new clubs and as soon as you get them on the course, you can see why.
The clubs are going to add distance to your game, especially if you are upgrading from a beginner set and it would not be uncommon for high handicappers to shave 5 or 6 shots of their round with these.
strong lofts with tungsten weighting gets a high and far flight while the flashcup face is built for speed and forgiveness.
Urethane microspheres absorb any unwanted vibrations and these are a really nice set of irons for any player.

Taylormade M6 – First Impressions
The Taylormade M6 irons represented a significant break through in the world of golf with the introduction of the speed bridge which adds stability, ball speed and smooth impacts, even on mishits.
The sweet spot on the M6 is massive, allowing you to hit it straight and far consistently.
While there is excellent forgiveness in the clubs, they are certainly built for ball speed and distance and that is the main reason for the speed bridge and the Speed pocket on the underside of the club and filling in the cavity on the ball.
The face is ‘Speed Injection’ for an amazing connection with the ball and better distance.
A deep undercut and low COG allow an easy launch and the High MOI of the irons maximizes speed and performance.
Still, one of the best iron sets on the market, for sure.

These are premium clubs with higher spin rates and smaller sweet spots that need a more consistent player to wield them efficiently.
What they lack in forgiveness is made up for in precision and control when you can hit them well

Callaway Apex 21 Pro First Impressions
We were really impressed with the sleek “notched” muscle back design of these irons.
This gives them a unique look among muscle back irons and may even make the transition from cavity back to muscle back irons less jarring for some players. What struck us even more is what we saw at the point of address.
The Callaway Apex 21 Pro irons have the lease offset and narrowest sole of any entry into the Apex family. For the better testers in our party this was no problem but for the rest of us, it took some getting used to – and some of us never did.
Still, the feel could not be ignored. On full swings, the The Callaway Apex 21 Pro’s felt soft and buttery. On pitches and short approaches, you get all the detailed feedback you need to inform your shots.
The Callaway Apex 21 Pro irons won’t play as long as standard distance irons if you are a high handicapper but distance should be no problem with these irons if you are a more advanced player.

Taylormade P7MC Irons

Taylormade P7MC Irons First Impressions
What struck us immediately was the soft, acute feel that you get from these irons – even on full swings.
The forging process that Taylormade used to construct the P7MC (and P7MB) irons is meticulous and it shows from your very first strike.
You get incredible consistency across the face and solid feedback on chips and full swings.
We also really liked the hybrid muscle/cavity back design. It looks clean at address and provides a bit more distance than you would expect from a player’s iron.
The Taylormade P7MC irons are a great entry point to forged irons if you have just broken into low handicap territory. They will make the transition to player’s irons less jarring for you.
The P Family
The P line of irons from Taylormade is expansive and has something for virtually every type of player.
However, along with the P7TW irons, the Taylormade P7MC and the P7MB’s won’t do much for you if you don’t already have a fast swing speed.
